I've never tried clojure; it looks interesting, though different from Common Lisp. I have invested some time--though not a lot--in Common Lisp and enjoyed it. I would like to actually use CL for something. Unfortunately, my feeling was

For me, it's a question of tooling. I would love to see a Common Lisp expert do an entire book on Armed Bear Common Lisp (Common Lisp entirely on the JVM). Edi Weitz hinted at what might be possible in his book, Common Lisp Recipes, bu

Is this where people march out and demand we program in Forth? More seriously, I don't see the West responding to a call from the Pope to reconquer Jerusalem.

You should check out Minimal Perl [ https://amzn.com/1932394508 ] if you haven't already done so.

I honestly have no idea. Given that there are different versions of awk and different versions of python, I'm not even sure there is an answer. Given awk's age (1977-when computers were much slower and memory much more expensive)

You're right...it's still doable. I could if I wanted, but the cost/benefit analysis of my time vs the payoff of using Lazarus just doesn't make it worth the time. Interestingly, here's a new link on HackerNews for

I mean docs that assume I've never looked at any other GUI system and don't know what an event even is, much less how to register one. What if I'm a first-time programmer or have only ever programmed in MIT Scratch? What if I

Well, the oracle website does tell you how to disable the toolbar, though I agree it shouldn't be there in the first place. As for uninstalling the old version, are you saying you want the new version to automatically uninstall old ver

I wonder how hard it would be to poach the best parts of the GUI system from Lazarus and put it into a Turbo Oberon system.

I just checked. Help shows documentation on FreePascal and what the different options are for Lazarus as an IDE, but I don't see any more documentation on how the GUI system works, which is supposed to be what makes this system so spec

So, I downloaded the latest version to OSX. Effortless install. Opened Lazarus and it looks great. Threw a few gui components onto the blank form and hit compile. The program compiled almost instantly, popping up a native gui that looks gre

I wonder if hardware restraints might actually improve software. Instead of "what the hardware giveth, the software taketh away," the industry will instead begin to say, "well, this is all the performance we've got so le

I disagree. The presence of several typos on the main page is a big red flag for a technical book. Having said that, I'm still interested, but the lack of proofreading on the author's release announcement for his book is definitel
