Yet if everyone made supporting their family through the generations their primary goal it would lead to incredible inequality as the advantages of those born to well off family allowed them to make their kids even better off and so on, whi

Yeah that's a fair point. For me walkability is a key factor in choosing where to live. Thankfully in the UK it's pretty easy to live in walkable places.

Audiobooks are great for walking. Not sure if that was what the OP was implying.

I'm admittedly biased as I'm tall and have walked everywhere all my life. 2 miles only takes me 25 min. In that case the whole journey is really 4 miles. I was thinking in terms of a continuous or largely continuous journey (such

I always interpreted that as them being selfish or idiotic. When I see people drive somewhere that's less than 2 miles away it blows my mind.

Perfectly equality isn't possible but we should make it so any child can reach the height of socio-economic success. To do that we occasionally need to tear down the advantages others have such as in this case.

I'd prefer a situation where everyone automatically paid for university fees via a graduate tax and no one has the option to pay outright.

I both agree and disagree with this. You're right that in a lot of places in western society (though not all) you can become pretty successful through good strategy and some hard work as you've described. But that's actually

My impression, and indeed my personal issue with inheritance, is financial inheritance. I have far less issues with other forms of inheritance. Sure I'm occasionally jealous of the opportunities or skills others learnt from a young age

If anyone here subscribes to Stratechery I strongly recommend the interview sent out yesterday with Microsofts head of gaming. There's chat there about how gaming shifted internally in part due to how Nadella rethought gaming as it

I've found Azure support reasonable. It's still not an easy product to use overall compared to AWS but the support engineers have been very proactive and keen to jump on calls to fix stuff.

The things is I never read about any major decisions Sundar Pichai has made. There's tons online about Tim Cook, Satya, Netflix's various SLs, Daniel Ek, Elon Musk (admittedly more about his tweets than business strat these days)

I've used EBEEBE before and it's a gorgeous tuning, using for the song 'Gold' from the film/musical Once. Also the variation EADGBF# is super interesting with open cords, though you do have to be very careful with t

I think the effect will reverse after a while. Sure a lot of folk want remote jobs but there'll also be plenty of folk at Dropbox and following companies who want an office and will start looking elsewhere following covid.

That's a hard opinion to push during a pandemic. I might be ok WFH during normal times (I strongly suspect I'd dislike it still) but atm it's nigh impossible to get enough human interaction outside the office.
