£1M is plenty if you're frugal. Not saying it's not an idea to try reducing stress and saving a little more but you'd have to be an idiot to accidentally burn through £1m before 50.

What are you using our of curiosity? I used to use the amazing TotalSpaces but with recent versions of OSx it was no longer able to work. Now I've just gotten used to OSx's shite version but I really miss using a grid

One thing I've noticed is the whole sale importation of the BLM movement to the UK. I'm not overly aware of the issue facing ethnic minorities in the UK (I live in Scotland where it's almost entirely white with some small asi

We can debate separately if companies should force people back to office. But in this case it is an either or. If the advantage of the office comes from being around your team and colleagues then it very much is an either or between home wo

Would that be similar to WeWork? I'd want to be in an office with my actual colleagues rather than remote working from a co-working space.

I think part of the issue, atleast within companies, it does need to be either or. An empty office often isn't any better than WFH for many folk. So if in your company you're in the minority then you might need to get a new job. T

And what other folk is saying is that enjoying socialising in the office isn't necessarily a crutch and that implying it is is insulting.

And that is horrible. But there are a lot of folk who feel lonely from WFH who are not like that. The comment was insulting because it implied that if you're lonely from working from home it must be because you lack a social life. You

But you did say that if you're lonely it's because you've not got enough of a social life outside of work. You can have an active social life outside of work and still feel lonely at work due to WFH. That's what you said

It's not an either or. You can have a great social life outside of work and still want and enjoy great relationships with colleagues. Yeah maybe they don't last once you leave, that doesn't mean they're not valuable!

I had a great social life outside of work but due to covid that's also disappeared. And even then I still miss specifically office socialising. I like knowing my colleagues and having a feeling of we're in this together. I like th

Do you actually want the goals? I realized recently that many of my goals particularly my career goals weren't things I actually wanted, they were what I thought I should want, which is why I could never work hard at then for too long.

The part everyone forgets is that there have been plenty of other power plan disasters far worse than Chernobyl and most of them were Hydropower. Judging nuclear power by Chernobyl is an absurd proposition.

I ask this as a non American who has never lived in SF. Does SF need or even want FAANGs? From what I've read the tech boom has brought a load of issues driven by inequality and they're taxing so much to fix these issues. If the t

That's a very good point. I wonder how any regrets of not having them work? Not having kids strikes me as far easier to consistently be at peace with.
