That was a nod to that article actually. No one does that now. Someone does some thinking, writes a strong interface, then builds the code behind it. There's usually only one implementation. The advantage comes at the testing phase whe

A lot of enterprise companies aren't buying in JS frameworks because the velocity of those frameworks is too fast. I kind of agree. When you have 50,000 desktops, a 6 month lead dragging a pile of apps over to a new browser is a nightm

Where is this sudden DI framework hate coming from? It's just magic object glue that assembles everything based on contract. It's that or factory factory factories or sticky tape. Those are much worse. All the Java EE tech is just

This is how I roll. Buy iPhone. Get AppleCare. When the AppleCare is done, sell it and buy a new one. Resale covers the AppleCare. If I break it, I pay the excess and walk away with a new handset the same day. This feeds the scond hand mark

I have found that small teams in small companies are more vulnerable to critical failures personally. That doesn't mean that the TDD mantra needs to be followed word for word but covering your core functionality with test cases allows

They only refund credit card transactions if suspected with fraudulent. Debit card transactions are held and investigated. I've had a card ripped and lost £500 permanently because the bank decided I had made the transaction. I had to s

Exactly. All it does as far as I can see is flag the transaction as card holder present. The PIN is easy to steal as well evidenced by the number of fake reader heads and cameras found attached to ATMs as well.

Fair point about the power. Retracted. Reading reviews, the handle is slippery, a lot of them arrive with defective temperature control, the tip isn't grounded with Y2 leakage from mains on it. Its still junk.

I really don't understand how that can actually be a good iron in any way, shape or form. I've been doing hobby and production soldering for about 25 years. What you need is an iron that will stay at 700oF whatever you throw at it

Yes scalability is the problem. I'm expecting a shortfall within a couple of years so I need a new strategy. Currently this is running way above inflation which is good but the hill I'm pedaling up is getting steeper.

Yes. I looked at diverse investments but I'm still looking at losing at least 30% of value compared to inflation. I have opted out of the mandatory pensions as I had debt to pay off and it makes more sense to invest in that. I'm n

I worry about savings. The inflation vs interest makes it a bad proposition for long term. Short term 6 month buffer zone is good. Does anyone have any advice in this area? How can I keep the value of my 10% savings in 30 years time with lo

I'm in the same situation. I'd give 500€ away to someone. I have done before on numerous occasions. The problem is not solidarity, it is trust and the human condition. If I give that money to someone, it'll turn into an iPhon

It won't make a damn bit of difference for a lot of users. Most of the horrible performance I find for windows file copies (and git/svn checkouts etc) is due to MFT contention in the filesystem rather than the network layer. This

I borrowed my mother's (edit 1968) Mini for a week, after my Land Rover series 3 fell to bits. This was mid-1990s. The suspension was unpleasant and painful to anyone in the vehicle. It was hard as nails. Definitely fun, until you acci
