>Here in the real world a desktop environment like Unity is a whole lot more than just a window manager. That is why we distinguish between 'window manager' (only manages windows) and 'desktop environment' (a whole lot more).

Well written article. One of the things I found amazing about learning assembly was that in x86 asm it is relatively trivial to check for overflow (after an operation has happened) by checking if the overflow flag [1] is set. Although this

This works oddly well in that the amount you 'pay' for the game is directly proportional to how long you play it.

I think you want `--ignore-date`, The man pages are very confusing about such things (in fact there is a minor documentation error in the current documentation on Debian Wheezy). My concern with using a soft reset mirrors yours, but I woul

The author mentions [1] (at the bottom, under 'key bindings') that light table uses codemirror[2] as the editor. I am really amazed with how well codemirror emulates basic vim key bindings [3], as I prefer to use ctrl-c rather than escape a

Those searches don't necessarily mean this is a hoax, simply that Google hasn't yet indexed them (possible if the posts are only a few days old), and that is assuming they are in places Google is able to index at all.

I find the modern synaptic trackpad on my Thinkpad X1 carbon to be amazing, it worked well under windows and runs very well under Linux (maybe even a bit better as I am more familiar with how to configure it).

There are even some awesome 2d games like 'Battle for Wesnoth' (open source) that will happily run on most netbooks.

very good point, you literally get what you pay for (and are stuck with it). I am really liking my x1 carbon and it performs very well with linux. I do wish I had stretched for the 8gb of ram but the 4gb has never been an issue (despite me

Yes and No. You are right in that Mt.Gox doesn't handle 80% of all btc-btc trade. However many use Mt.Gox as their wallet so the TPB analogy doesn't quite hold that far, as Mt.Gox being taken down would mean these people wouldn't have acces

Quoting the mtgox homepage which in turn claims to be quoting wikipedia: "As of July 2011, Mt. Gox handles over 80% of all Bitcoin trade". MTGOX is more than just a USD to bitcoin exchange.

I find it somewhat worrying that they haven't directly address the points of the hacker's claim. I am particularly interested to find out whether linode did enter into a deal with the hackers.

If this is indeed true I will be very disappointed, I have had an otherwise great relationship with Linode. I await for more data and hopefully an official response from Linode. If the worst case is true, what are some good alternatives for

I too often have difficulty focussing on a task, often getting bogged down in reading email or 'quickly' checking the news. To get around this I use the pomodoro technique [1] and [2] I have also found quite a bit of success using paper lis

This question is partially address in the articles linked to at the start [1] I linked to the slide that begins to mention it, rather short though. The answer is that we can add heuristics, but that we should also be able to solve this some

I see this as a devtime-runtime tradeoff, If you follow the link to the mentioned article [1] there is some discussion about how to improve on this tradeoff. FWIW: I use C for many of my personal projects as I often enjoy solving problems a

This is the reason pulling all matching branches (and pushing all matching branches) by default is generally a bad idea.

I don't understand how creating a branch is a major operation. Creating a branch is non-destructive and cheap, tidying up after accidental creation is also easy.
