The plus is Apple hardware has low depreciation so it might worth getting the M1 if you're a dev and appreciate rapid compile times. My webpack build times are less than half the 7700HQ that I was using which makes me way more producti

I'm a huge AMD fan. Been waiting all year for my dream Ryzen laptop but just given in to a MacBook Air M1. I have no regrets, but this gives me hope that a true Ryzen ultrabook might exist next year, now that the industry have to take

How about, as a compromise, quality over quantity. Most of trash of Netflix only last one or two seasons anyway and is then forgotten about. Stop making terrible sci-fi like Another Life and invest in quality shows like The Expanse which ar

Dude this is actually awesome. Do you have a "buy me a beer" link so we can help out with hosting costs? Seriously you should make this the "Wikipedia" of social media. No ads ever and people will use it. By the way, jus

Fortunately this is also true with many devices, but knowing which ones allow this before buying is the problem. Most shops won't advertise the chipset. This is also beyond the abilities of 99% of the population.

I've learned my lesson and no longer buy WiFi connected "smart" devices, unless I can flash them with custom firmwares. ZigBee isn't without its flaws too but at least I can guarantee that the device doesn't require

Ah yes. I looked at this a while ago. I liked it but then ran into a brick wall with a lack of support for an equivalent to async/await syntax. It has wrappers for JS promises but they are clunky and awkward, unless someone wants to en

I get what you're saying however even at the machine code level there is a difference between an i32 and an i64. Also the "sizeof" of a struct is important too when calculating how far to stride with regard to memory addresse

Did not know about these. I wrote my own a while back because I couldn't find an example of this being done (fully type safe validation). https://github.com/cjdell/type-safe-validator

I'm glad you asked. :-) For a start, number types. I want i32, i64, u32 etc. JavaScript (and therefore TypeScript) only has "number". Yes we now finally have BigInt but it's not ideal for JIT optimisation. Object prototy

TypeScript is becoming such a compelling language due to its insanely advanced type system (that allows for projects like this) that I now want to use it everywhere. I want it to become the next Python. I know Deno is supposed to be first c

I had no idea you could compose string literal types AND infer variables using interpolation syntax in the context of conditional types. I am salivating at the potential use cases for this...

However, scheme relative URLs (i.e. //example.com/thing.jpg) are useful in edge cases where you want to request assets using the same protocol as the document, are they not?

That may be true of some people. I don't think I've become complacent. It's impossible to tell what would have happened if the car hadn't helped in those situations. The car does have advantages over humans, like for exa

Only 1 accident that was my fault (I was young and stupid). Been driving for 17 years and have had near misses before. I don't know for sure if I would have crashed if it wasn't for Auto Pilot, but it's nice to know that it&#

I wonder if SpaceX's StarLink (if it ever gets finished) will continue to function independently in the event of global disaster. Having equipment around that can communicate with that sounds like a good idea.

I tried really hard to use ReasonML about a year ago but ran into a road block with the lack of async/wait (or equivalent) syntax. It's really cumbersome to have to go back to chaining callbacks again.

Could/should one use this to build a touch screen user interface for an RPi as part of a kiosk based application? I really like Go, and suspect a Go app would beat the pants off anything powered by Electron (performance wise).
