Exactly. No point being the one taking the risk - if the professionals don't dare take the risk then any non-professional (fund buyer) shouldn't either (under normal circumstances). PS. Furthermore, an accurate comparison is not b

Scandinavia with a tax pressure of 50% or something paints another picture than you do. What is probably more clear is that something of a mix between socialism and capitalism have been the most successful. Probably depending on a lot of fa

To be fair, I've only been skimmed through the article, but nowhere do I see any research, or even clear arguments/fair reasoning, about monopolistic behavior in free markets. Only false comparisons (Apple when it was close to ban

How about make a copy to an external drive? If you want to be sure do 2. Check them every 5-10 years, replace as needed when connectors get discontinued (eg Firewire -> USB-C). Bonus: Keep backup with external cloud service. No need to m

I can recommend looking up Options as a strategy. A well known approach, with clear benefits (and downsides ofc).

Let's not forget the hassle when you don't have one source of truth. Life before Dropbox and the like wasn't super fun. I think this is an underestimated factor at play. It's super nice to not have deal with that issue,

If you have two copies, following that logic, you can then actually read it twice as fast!

You could quite easily store a lambda formula (that just passes on the arguments) as a named function. Very neat trick for organizing and re-using formulas in excel.

The same as Apple. Qualcomm bought Nuvia, which was started by engineers working at Apple on their CPUs.

Anecdotally from previous HN discussions, I believe a lot of the code is now not developed by ChatGPT anymore. Update: As evident by the author's comment below, it's definitely not made by ChatGPT anymore (in any major way)

Maybe, but is the interface a significant factor here? From what I understand one of the biggest advantages of Nvidia among GPU companies is their strong software part (eg CUDA). That speaks to that Apple has a different kind of integration

Qualcom and Apple is pushing forward so probably not a big issue. I'd rather say we're in a very interesting situation for CPUs right now (compared with 5-10 years ago). GPUs on the other hand seems much more dominated by Nvidia.

I think the bigger issue for many is that tooling, infra(provider), in-house knowledge/skill/experience as well as optimizations may differ quite a lot. Of course, this will differ a lot between projects.

I'd say it's not that clear cut. Do we have any facts (research) here or are these just beliefs? I can point to several but companies doing very well owned by governments, as well as many doing very badly.

When to trust your instincts /intuition (eg. when few facts are known, there are no critical central deciding factors, but it's important to take a decision and move forward) and when to stop trusting your instincts and reflect a

Sweden is usually ranking vet high on health care, both in results and research/innovation. One big reason for this is that we very early on gathered a lot of medical statistics on the population through the "health ministry"

There are some nice features of using UUIDs rather than ints. It's been written about before, a few on the top of my head: Client side generation of ids. No risk of faulty joins (using the wrong ids to join 2 tables can never get any h

Basically, see other comments. We simply followed the migration guide. Very painless. We use few external libs, så that helped a lot. You can find me on LinkedIn with the same username as here for DM.

We had a homegrown store lib that was very similar to pinia, so migration was basically minor renaming. Like others have mentioned, the biggest fear was other libs we used. We are quite conservative with that though, so want a big deal.
