PE shops are great targets for being the “bad guys” in whatever situation, of course they are no different than your run of the mill investor or founder when it comes to greed.

The "issue" is Julia is not Just-in-Time, but a "Just-Ahead-of-Time" language. This means code is compiled before getting executed, and this can get expensive for interactive use. The famous "Time To First Plot"

Maybe, but those multi-million transfers are usually going to known trusted counterparties (other brokers, bank treasuries), not random vendor accounts.

Banking is not optional in today's advanced societies, and the sooner we recognize that, the sooner we'll have proper regulations mandating a minimum level of banking service, eg. Limited deposits, withdrawals, debit/secure

I actually read this as the opposite of NEW TECH craze. The components are commonly used in the data community, despite being cutting edge. The only exception might be DataFusion as it's hard to play against Spark/Databricks push

DI, at least in Java is a way to avoid rolling your own custom code to add dinamicity to the language. As you point out, JS, TS and Python are dynamic enough to not need those.

You can get ahead very far with a 16h free course on kernel development https://training.linuxfoundation.org/training/a-beginners-gu... A motivated person can run through it in a couple weeks while working a day job.

This is literally free knowledge spread across many MOOCS, YouTube videos and Unix man pages. You can tinker with it with a Raspberry Pi. Finding time to learn if this is not your day job is another problem, but a solvable one if you'r

I've heard that advanced math has a similar problem, that some subjects are quite deep that only a handful of people really understand the topic and passing the knowledge down to younger mathematicians is not a given.

This here. Fully centralized IT is stifling, shadow/decentralized is chaotic. Good structures come from hybrid, matrix-like approaches.

I find Bayesian regression models are actually simpler to explain as the assumptions you make are explicit and part of the model specification. (Thought the actual sampling mechanics and tooling can be much more complex)

The UL example is one where it would be hard for improved security to happen by itself. UL was founded to solve for fire risk when insuring buildings. It received funding from underwriters that would benefit from the label. I don't see

Back then we could not prevent or ameliorate such disasters. This is equivalent to arguing we should not invest in sanitation because humans have been dying of cholera since ever.

The nice thing about Nordic countries is that you got 4 of them that are quite comparable. Denmark had a stricter approach compared to Sweden and arguably had better outcomes and faster economic recovery.
