It's open source. So it can be audited. The problem is: who audits and how to know a new version is audited.

Exactly. So you could have 2 shortcuts: one for reject all non essential, one for accept all. Much better UX than figuring out per site which button to click.

I hate Spring(Boot): too much magic due to overuse of annotations. On the JVM I'd prefer Kotlin/http4k/SQLDelight any day over {Java,Kotlin}/Spring(Boot)/{Hibernate,sql-in-strings}.

Kotlin is nice indeed. Most of the issues I had with it were in interop with Java code (those pesky platform types, that behave like non-nullable but are nullable: and you are back in the NPE swamp!)

I'd say it's a bit crufty/quirky. Zig seems to be a good modern alternative. Basically a very similar language in the core, with a much more pleasant syntax. Wondering how long it will take before Linux can be ported to Zig b

Bullying is, to me, a thing minors do. Children, adults, people-in-positions-of-power and corps should be held to different standards. I've seen banks offer "quick loans" specifically to vulnerable adults. Same with the opiod

I feel bad for him and you all. But personally when I look the US' history of military interventions then I sadly have to conclude he was made to believe he did it for "our freedom". A good facade for a dirty business. In fac

I think free speech is something to protect for humans, not for companies. I can say "you should get the vaccine!" Companies that want to say these kinds of things have rules to abide by: and thanks fully so. I'm much for fre

We should outright forbid it in public space. IHMO. Also I'd say lets only tax undesirable behaviour! So not tax: * wages * having a house * adding value (VAT) But so tax: * land use * polluting * packaging (could be part of polluting)

What do you mean? You can build any level of UX (user) in React that you can achieve without it right? I'd say all these FE framework help us build and structure browser applications that potentially increase UX over "just HTML pa

I agree with the author of the article in that it's often best to do as much as possible in plain-old HTML. When an interactive "widget" is needed, I try to simply embed that in one HTML page, and avoid to make the whole app

I heard StarLink satellites eventually re-enter the atmosphere when they are not orbit-stable. Thus this technology is bad for life on earth when it is lauched into space and again when decommissioned. Here an article on that: https:/

BASIC was one of my first languages (after LOGO). I learned it as a kid (1988-1991). I don't think it helped me much, in retrospect. It limited what I could create (programs were slow and limited in many capabilities) and it did not te

It's usually called ML-syntax. SML, OCaml, Elm, PureScript, and many more have used this.

I found Kotlin a "typed Ruby" (I found Ruby a "sane Perl"). Rust seems pretty nice to work with (good DX) in it's domain: close to the metal programs were every tick counts. The main DX issue with it would be compil

It's only popular if you want to avoid big biz to use your software under that license. Big biz avoids AGPL like the plague. You could do a dual license model, where a traditional license can be bought if you dont want to go with AGPL

Go to ten FLOSS project and check. Some want to be able to quickly assess some tings (is this JS/PHP/Python, or is this Rust/Go -- my interest). Someone posted the github link here on HN: why would that be?
