Base58 and Base64 exist in pure-ASCII space. Expanding into non-ASCII characters would probably just be confusing.

You could, if you are only optimizing for display size. UUIDs are very infrequently presented as user-facing data, and pretty much every sensible system will be storing them as a 128-bit value, not the ASCII representation you see. So reall

Aye. Anything above 39.16 °C would get translated whole-units to 103° F. Some smartphone, I think it was Apple, had an issue like this where they got weather information in whole units of celsius and translated to Fahrenheit for display at

It's probably suffice to say 39°C. It's unlikely the temperature was exactly 102°F; these measures are almost always rounded to the whole unit.

libvte is a big reason that GNOME Terminal tends to be faster than competing terminal emulators, including xterm and rxvt. One of VTE's tricks is that it doesn't bother painting the screen if the contents are going to be overwritt

KDE still has this mentality, though they try to somewhat sweep it under the rug. Toolbars aren't overflowing anymore... usually. But the menus and dialogs still have those hundreds of options and it definitely gives a feeling that the

SQLite is an in-process database. If you need language-agnostic encapsulation of data procedures, SQLite is not for you. I would suggest you consider PostgreSQL.

That's how I interpreted as well. "Electrical transformer without any formal training in electric engineering" is basically how the title read to me. Followed by a lot of confusion when the article was not that. Good on him,

I use it all the time. It's a huge improvement over NFSv3 for many reasons (performance, network ports, locking, ACLs, ...). All the operating systems I names have fully implemented and mature NFSv4 stacks. Definitely not a MVP to tick

Version 4 has been implemented in and widely used in Linux, FreeBSD, Solaris, Microsoft Windows... I'm not sure what value of "much adoption" you're using, but I think it's had great adoption.

NFSv4 has sane, good locking out of the box. Implementing lockd on an NFSv3 server is a big world of hurt.

"0 to 60" is likewise so common place in America that we often leave out the units (mph). It's probably obvious enough in the car context which unit is being talked about, between 0-60 and 0-100.

It's basically only the GPL family that mentions free software. They're the licenses forged out of the movement itself. Everyone else is just happy to satisfy the spirit of the thing without giving it explicit mention.

It would be neat if Windows 3.x could get open sourced, both the NT and non-NT versions. There's probably a business argument that they're far enough removed from Windows 11 to not be a threat to Microsoft's sale of Windows 1
