It's sattire for sure. Everything has a phase of being a buzzword. Buzzwords annoy the crap out of me but I've also been using the word microservices before it was a thing, back when just Netflix was blogging about it. I could say

Hi, author here. I built Micro based on my experience at Google and Hailo. At Hailo we built a global microservices platform with over 200 bespoke services in production by the time I left. I realised that more and more people were tackling

+1 to this. Used rabbit extensively in production but now #10 on the list. Nats is #1 as a transport message bus in my opinion.

I'm building something at the moment. I previously worked at a couple startups and a large tech company. I'm the kind of person who goes all out until burn out. Not really healthy behaviour. I've realised that building my own

Revenue and profit buys time. If both decline you'll end up exactly where Yahoo is now. Marissa focused heavily on her product strategy without understanding the dynamics of running a public company under the scrutiny of Wall Street. I

So the thing to understand here is that it's a two sided business. On one side the you're serving the consumer who wants price comparison of loans, mortgages, credit cards, insurance, etc and on the other side are financial servic

Yea that's the one. That quote is quite amusing. We didn't do anything different the day after the acquisition, Google didn't do anything either. People just started talking about us, posting articles, blog posts, etc which h

I'll start by saying these are my opinions and perspective based on my experience. I can't speak for senior management or other acquisitions. I agree with the sentiment. Google can build anything but they struggle to sell. I think

Personally a sad day. I was an employee of the company acquired back in 2011 who went on to build this. I left Google in 2013 but most stayed on to see this through. I will say, as a standalone company we operated phenomenally and had solid

Yea, it's a completely different use case. Internally Google has something called Maglev which looks a little more like Seesaw but even still its quite different. I haven't actually seen anything like GSLB anywhere else. With clas

No no, you're missing the point, it's an RPC proxy which is language agnostic. It sits along side your application as opposed to being a library that you bake in.

Have you seen Google's GSLB? It's not a proxy and it's a rather complex and powerful system. It aggregates and coordinates traffic flow but doesn't directly do any kind of forwarding. You could maybe think of Linkerd lik

Very true. There's no easy way to handle it. To be honest, I think Yahoo would probably thrive as a private company with time to focus on long term vision as opposed to quarterly returns.

Is it actually for sale? Everyone is saying that it's basically for sale but the language used in the earnings call was very corporate, actually skating over the issue completely, talking about sale on "non-strategic" assets.
