`p_enemy.c translated to p_enemy.v which can be compiled and replace p_enemy.o` <- that's extremely impressive, good on you! :)

I don't understand why the SEC (america) has jurisdiction to 'block' Telegram's operations (legal domicile in London) - am I missing something here?

It seems to me that every other month this certain company does something that is anti-their customer base, and maybe there's a market for people considering moving away from them? I've been inspired lately by the people who do Pi

Coincidentally i'm trying out rav1e today (the open-source command line av1 encoder). At 1080p for a 2m40s movie trailer on a current-model mac mini 6-core, it's running at 0.153FPS. That means it's running at 157x slower tha

Is it simply the case that once AV1 encoding gets done in hardware in most CPUs, all its disadvantages vanish and it becomes the obvious choice?

Any ideas how this Intel encoder compares to rav1e and why they chose to roll their own?

Wow, that's quite impressive! I love playing old sierra games on ScummVM. Don't really have any questions, just wanted to say thanks :)

I used this recently to pull the bios off a lenovo, use UEFITool to pull out one of the applications, used Hopper to find where it only allowed whitelisted wifi cards, patch that and rewrite the bios. Works perfectly! Flashrom is fantastic.

Thanks so much for explaining how that works :) Is it just me or does decompiling the binary SPIR-V to ESL/HLSL source code then recompiling sound like a recipe for massive inefficiency? Or in practice does it work out pretty nicely?

So from what I can find, it seems gfx-hal works with GLSL, compiles it to SPIRV, and then uses that (somehow). I'm just not sure how it uses the SPIRV for each backend.

Great write-up! I'd really like to know how gfx-hal handles shaders. Do you write shaders in some high-level language, and gfx translates them appropriately for the vulkan/metal/dx backends, and send them off to the GPU drive

Wow, 10% really doesn't get you very far, does it! Well, maybe people should aim higher. In my case, i'm less worried about retiring early, and more interested in saving so my kids can more easily buy their first house.

I am not a financial advisor, but... start with 10%. Use high-interest savings accounts if you need to dip into the money unpredictably. Use term deposits if you'll need to access the money in a year (shares might dip in that time). Us

By 'porting servo' do you mean a browser that uses Servo but it isn't Firefox? That'd actually be pretty neat, all the good bits of FF without (respectfully i say this) the cruft.

Is there any plan for getting eg Firefox to run on Redox? Or would you prefer a pure-rust web browser? Thanks :)

This is a helpful approach for embedded platforms: Write in a nice language (V), spit out C code that the usually-old embedded toolchain can compile.

The CPU / SoC appears to be a 'Kendryte K210' which looks like you can simply download the SDK from github - which seems pretty impressive to me :) https://github.com/kendryte/kendryte-freertos-sdk

I'm concerned that the many RISC-V projects seem to be stalling, I'd love to be convinced otherwise? * It's been almost 2 years since SiFive released their arduino-ish dev board and it hasn't been updated, surely there a

I've been working on and off on a native macOS slack client. It's showing some promise in terms of speed, RAM usage, it looks prettier because it can use system blurs etc. But yeah i also worry about their lawyers. So i probably w

Glad to hear it! I'm undecided re open source, two reasons: I wouldn't mind trying to sell it and take a chance at the 'indie developer' dream, and also managing a community project i think is beyond me.

Perhaps people began seeing postmodernism's deconstruction of beauty, love, soul, and truth as too stark to endure.
