Find a mentor. If you're serious, and not just 'going through a phase', you'll need people to spur you on with this. Find some organisations you admire, eg kiva, and email the founders to see if they'd mentor you or if they could recommend

If you're serious about beating that shipping-yourself-difficulty, read Pressfield's book 'the art of war'.

Congratulations on shipping your first. You're in exactly the same boat as me. Keep it up till you've got a dozen apps, you can do it!

I think a good place to start would be making a vim binding for xcode. Realistically its very difficult to escape the xcode ecosystem, however vim bindings would probably be enough to make it great.

Looks fantastic. I'm personally really interested, and would like to know: * Pricing - beta/free won't last forever! * How will this compare with using iCloud when it comes out? I believe that icloud will provide api's for some storage/sync

I love this article! Only had a chance to skim read it so far, but it looks along the same lines as a lot of things my friends have been discussing at the moment about making a worthwhile impact with our lives, especially the focus on NOW a

I don't understand - why has it been such a big deal to raise the debt ceiling this time? I mean, didn't they do it 7 times in bush's 8 years, and 5 times in the last ~4 years of obama's presidency? If they've done it roughly once a year fo

Yes, but the limit is: 65k only for a single incoming IP address. So 1m is fine, presuming the clients all have different IPs. So, for testing, i'm going to have to do 1m/65k = 16 servers running concurrently at 64k connections each.

I would have thought the easiest way to land a job at google these days would be to start a blog, become a 'thought leader', start a few important open source projects, etc, that kind of thing.

I googled for C hash libraries, and came across one of those 'shootout' blog posts where they compare memory size and cpu usage, and klib looked to be a winner. Plus it's only one or two header files to make it work. Documentation was poor,

Thanks for having a look! The main thing i wanted to check for as of now is the performance (in terms of memory usage) of the hash/dictionary/list library i'm using (klib). In which case, i'm personally impressed with the work of klib's aut

Those are orthogonal stats, true. More relevant is queued messages vs RAM used, which i'm quite happy with: 1m messages = 65m ram. Also think about the 1000 msgs/sec vs 5% cpu, which i'm also happy with. Thanks a lot for having a look!

Thanks for letting me know. Sounds like they have a bit more of an online presence than my target, cafe's, and would appreciate the linkbacks/blog coverage more. Having said that, its good to hear that they didn't worry about traffic. Good

I'd love to video chat with my baby daughter in the mornings because i go to work before she wakes up. But cannot because due to bandwidth issues, its an awful experience. So count me as an adopter if and when video chat ever becomes good!

Its unfortunate that the x86 camp is splintering, with developers caught in the crossfire unable to find a compiler that works well on all x86 processors, while the world drifts towards ARM...
