6850k has launch date 2016. So you are fine. Microsoft claims CPUs post 2015 only have unnoticable slowdown.

>With Windows 10 on newer silicon (2016-era PCs with Skylake, Kabylake or newer CPU), benchmarks show single-digit slowdowns, but we don’t expect most users to notice a change because these percentages are reflected in milliseconds. Then

I believe the one from my link is lost between reboots. Windows does not seem to deliver microcode fixes except for the Surface.

For Windows there is also this: https://labs.vmware.com/flings/vmware-cpu-microcode-update-d... I have never tried it though.

I think the worst part of any depressive phase is that it makes you feel you are the only one deep down this hole. Everyone around you has a perfect life. Every stranger on the bus seems to be happy. But the truth is you are not looking har

"Bricked" refers to that your device can now be used as a brick and nothing else... at least that's how I always understood it.

If you are using Go to create something, then just use the built in webserver library (as shown in this repo). So that would make this project as a library (not just as an exercise / protoype) useless. Don't you think?

I never said it is not a cool exercise. I meant more like it is not something one would download and compile and run it... like it is not a useful tool. Just a cool one. And that is fine.

I do not quite see the point of this (other than being an exercise). We already have web server that do "logging, tracing, health check, graceful shutdown." I do not care about zero deps, because I only install them once and the d

The problem, I think, is a psychological one. No one likes to get stuff taken away. People were also annoyed how "bad" their VW drives after the diesel fixes. Even if you probably never hit the limits to feel the difference, just

That is not what I meant. My new CPU is much faster than the old one. I was hitting the limits at certain times. And now that I finally can afford upgrading, I did. But this was all before we knew about Meltdown / Spectre... Of course

Yep, until your "trusted code" (e.g. Apache, PHP,...) has a remote code execution vulnerability. This is such a dangerous advice... you should really only disable these things if: a) your computer is not connected to the internet

I just got an 8700k last week. I was thinking about returning it and go with Amd instead. The truth is, I do not do many tasks on my home computer where the CPU is going to be at >50% at all times. The other truth is, that Intel CPUs are

If you know that your product is flawed, do you keep selling it or will you pull it from the shelves? To this date I can still buy broken Intel CPUs.... They knew about the flaw in June. Yet they still kept selling Coffee Lake CPUs. If my 8
