I made this point previously on HN about Apple's Find My Friends app: in light of how ridiculous the leather stitching looks, the friendliness of the UI distracts users from the reality of how intrusive the app's functionality can be. Imagi

It doesn't fix the appearance of the comments section, but lately I've been browsing the homepage via http://hckrnews.com/ .

<speculation> In all likelihood, multitasking is probably a 'swipe up' gesture from the bottom of the screen now, similar to what Apple is doing with the trackpad in Mountain Lion's notification system. I'm imagining a WebOS-style g

Are you referring to the image on that page? If so, go here: http://www.tomanthony.co.uk/tools/detect-social-network-logi... It's accurate for me.

From whose perspective, though? The new tab button should be really obvious in a production browser, and in Chrome 17 it isn't. If this is a change suggested by the Plus team, it's a bad change. Usability first.

This is how and, more importantly, why I learned to program. My office uses a horribly unintuitive centralized database from which employees 'pull reports' to prove to supervisors the work they've done. One of the guys in the office was mai

I think I may have a better idea for the HUD. I'm on OS X right now, and I use Spotlight for absolutely everything. The help menu has a feature to Spotlight within menus, but it's not great if you don't know the literal name of the command

I'm not sure about the two hour timespan, but brightness appears to have an effect on sleep latency and the time it takes to fall asleep. Studies [edit: PDFs]: [1] http://www.journalsleep.org/Articles/250312.pdf [2] http://www.sciencesle

I'm with you on this one. It's less that the RIAA and major labels 'don't know how to use the new technology and...succeed in the new marketplace' so much as we're currently (still) in an in-between stage of market control. Take for example

Pretty funny list, but this seems like a case of poor management of expectations. It shouldn't be your job to explain why things matter (as in 'Boss: What difference does that make?'), but sometimes that's reality. Here's a set of slides on

The issue there is that coming from a Windows environment the terminology isn't exactly the same. The command is called "go", hence Cmd + Shift + G. It would be useful if one could enter keystrokes into the search bar in the 'Help' panel. T
