Even building a cube-sat that never leaves your desk would be an interesting hobby project, really. Non-experts would certainly learn a ton from doing so, and you'd end up with a cool conversation piece, if nothing else.

I'll note here that at least one "proof-of-capacity" coin already exists: http://www.burst-coin.org/ I can't elaborate either on the merits of proof-of-capacity vs. proof-of-capacity plus proof-of-time.

I'll add Gridcoin, which is a cryptocurrency that rewards BOINC participation: http://www.gridcoin.us/ I really wish coins like these would catch on more than they have. Proof-of-work is, to the best of my knowledge, t

Hi, HN. I'm the project author. I wrote this CMS a few years ago after having become dissatisfied with both Wordpress and Jekyll. `wit-cms` is an npm module that attempts to split the difference between both of the former, in that it r

One thought regarding monetization: I assume you're loading ads via JavaScript or something. (I didn't check.) I too saw the notice regarding blocked ads. It will be a cold day in hell before I disable my ad-blocker, but you can e

I'll concede that I'm not as economically literate as I'd wish, but this doesn't make sense to me. The "1%-ers" don't tend to store their wealth in land, do they? How would this proposal even out the wealt

I've noticed this on many other news sites recently as well. I hope this trend dies soon. This is an immediate "close tab" for me when it happens.

I'm with you on this. I'd be really interested in seeing, for example, an "Open Division" in Track-and-Field, whereby anything goes, up to and including gene modification and cybernetic enhancement. It would be both a sp

I wouldn't worry about this for an "emergency" supply - especially for a small supply like you'd be able to keep in your car. If you break down on a hot day away from town somewhere, I'm sure you'll be glad to

There's Gridcoin, which, if I understand correctly, is essentially the "coinification" of BOINC: http://www.gridcoin.us/ It would be great if it ever became profitable to mine this.

For what it's worth, we do have PBS ("Public Broadcasting Service") over here, which is funded via a combination of taxes and donations. A lot of folks dismiss it as being "left-leaning", though.

It seems like they would only find out after the update has been pushed, though - ie, after the app has been broken. Unless they have relationships with the banks now, and would be given a heads-up. Perhaps that's the case. It sounds l
