The answers in this subthread had me think more: I am using a company provided Windows machine and a Linux virtual desktop for the same tasks. Startup times difference for many applications is night and day. Probably due to virus scan and M

Static fields can get in the way of testability very quickly, in my experience. Even static methods can if they draw in dependencies.

Re. 2.: I just bought a Fairphone 4 with e/OS preinstalled. I think I can do on that device whatever suits me. Not all is lost but we need to care.

Installation unfortunately is anything but dirt cheap in Germany, at least not on houses. Currently it is hard finding someone willing to do the work as well.

Java solves this with map as instance function (transfering the function inside the box). And there are several extraction functions (See Optional for an example).

Where this can directly been seen in Java is the Optional class which has the methods you describe as instance methods. Though Java has no syntactic sugar for monads this allows chaining expressions (which I think in Haskell would be bind()

The client has access to the address book and it is hard to verify what the client does in reality. I receive updates of the client every other day and who knows what it brings with it.

Two days ago I received a Fairphone 4 from Murena. Seems solid can't say much more so far. I replaced the default app launcher as it does not offer the possibility to show all installed apps. I come from Samsung and I like its (localiz

Unfortunately, something being legislated does mean nothing. In Germany, there has been Covid location tracking via an app (Luca App) for venues. Despite legislation explicitely forbidding that, police tried and gained access to this data.

I have a new car and no, it can't be disabled. You can only disable tracking by the car company but not emergency calling. Via IMEI tracking the cell providers have your location data, willingly or not. If you want to travel anonymousl

I am surprised that this is a surprise. At least color vision is encoded in the X-Chromosome so there should be variation as males have only one which can be expressed.

Or you just market your 1000 mAh battery as 950 mAh battery. But, uhhmm, honesty and marketing... If you can't charge the battery to 1000 mAh, then state so.

Good luck, now you are dependent on Google. Browsers have the exact same problems as OSes, unfortunately. I exclusively use Firefox where I can but at least at work it is becoming more difficult lately.
