This is silly. Apple is a monopoly with 100% of the iOS market and use that monopoly to shut any potential competitor out of the market. Can you buy ebooks from Amazon from Kindle app? No. Can you have a true Firefox browser on iOS? No. Can

Comparing to what Apple is doing right now and what MS is going to do with their WinRT, bundling browser is nothing.

win8 arm is already locked down. You can't have a JIT engine on it.

Honestly I never trust Apple with iCloud. Still need to do backup with iTunes regularly. I wish iOS has better integration with Dropbox because I trust it. But again, if Apple takes over DB, then I would lose my trust. This guy isn't for we

If I were a developer from KA, I would be very grateful for this kind of crticism, no matter how harsh it is. Bret basically did a lot of free research work for them. Some of the ideas are hard to implement, but there are quite a few things

MS doesn't give developers an option better than Apple's. Their platform (win RT) is as close as iOS. Oh, and that Metro. Do they really use this UI daily themselves? Or do they have a secret way to turn it off completely? Perhaps I am just

Missing c99 support is really a pain in the ass. I can't believe they don't care about it.

Because very few users would actually pay. You may be generous, but they are not dumb as well.

I am actually quite impressed by Amazon's move. Is it going to buy Ubuntu over? Sounds like a win win.

Same feeling. I hate apple, but recommending a MBA clone + win8 preview is very weird. Especially the win8 part, the author didn't tell any feature that makes it a big improvement over win7. Perhaps this is not about software after all.

In Steve's words, this is a great "steal". They probably thought the clock company should feel honored about it. I would like to see their faces now.

If piling engineers can solve problems, MS would not be still struggling in mobile space. Anyway I would rather wait for google maps. Just like I use Dropbox instead of iCloud. Sometimes you should not waste resource on things you are not g

I am afraid that debugging your c++ code on Android will be a lot of pain.

The downside is that they get used to the pain, and then feel nothing about it, and then user has to eat it too.

Are you 100% sure? I believe webkit (either in safari or UIWebView) should be able to run JIT, while your custom engine can't.

Is there any bridge between JS and native code? Yes, I know it is hard to support development and debugging of a hybrid of script and native code, but regarding battery life and computation intensive apps, JS is not an option. Unless this O

I once worked with a png decoder which crashes with some input format. Later on found out it is an alignment issue, which requires some basic knowledge about Computer architecture and assembly of course.

Can't help thinking, is this a quest for a new god? I am a huge fan of AWS, love the Amazon's "pay what you use" philosophy. However, I bought a Kindle Fire before, and since decided not to buy any more in the future. Not matter at what pri

Let's face the reality. THe HTML5+CSS3+JS is over complicated. It's not going to stop lagging for the same jobs that native apps can handle well. Not even your computer is sped up 2x. Because native apps will always make it look bad. Howeve
