Only facts here. I think most large codebases eventually see type hints drift away from reality as individual contributors are more incentivized to hack in `Any` types to make things compile instead of typing every line properly. This is

I've never heard anyone describe the implicit "negative short" all renters have for housing but that totally makes sense. I wonder what the takeaway is for someone who isn't interested in buying a house soon - maybe ind

I love this site. My favorite page is https://senseis.xmp.net/?ThePowerOfTheB2Bomber , such classic old-school internet humor. "The secret of the B2 Bomber is of course that it contains not less than two empty tri

It seems like this design will make it very difficult to design cases. On most phones with camera bumps, the case ends up sitting flush with the bump and has a hole for it. Here the case would either have to go over the bump (adding thick

I thought the problem with multiple wings is that the first one pushes air downward (to induce lift), and then the proceeding wings get caught in the downdraft. Just looking up pictures of planes with multiple wings, it seems like it'

It probably works the other way around. Amazon is incentivized to not compete with their customers because they’re already collecting rent on them thru AWS. Why drive your competitor out of business if they already pay you yearly fees? And

My understanding is that this budget is just a bargaining tactic. Note that it includes huge boosts to defense spending, 8 billion for a border wall, and cuts to every agency that democrats like. http://www.ncsl.org/ncsl-in-

Amazon has an internal git which is pretty heavily modified for use at their scale. It combines Git and package/version control into one application that works pretty well.

This gives some perspective. Google buying GitHub would’ve been a tragedy. In fact, I can’t think of a single megacorporation I’d rather have running GitHub than Microsoft in 2018. Still a shame they couldn’t stay independent though.

It’s cool that there are alternatives, but github is still the only one providing a search engine over billions of lines of modern code. It’s an irreplaceable software development tool and I hope Microsoft treats it well.

In 1944, John von Neumann and Oskar Morgenstern proved that any non-zero-sum game for n players is equivalent to a zero-sum game with n + 1 players; the (n + 1)th player representing the global profit or loss. https://en.wikiped

This article is arguably fake news. To support their claim they cite a few tweets and one line from a NYTimes article which is barely related. I love Hacker News but lately this place has had a bit of a singular focus... It seems to me th

This is scary. I always assumed that the "access contacts" permission was read-only, but I guess it's not. Just another thing to be paranoid about in modern life.

I’m a big fan of Gitkraken. Great for doing common actions in one click, and graphically viewing history. It’s crazy how negatively people judge me for using it though. It’s like telling someone I prefer Microsoft Word as my IDE.

I agree. If your options are to apply to 20 jobs with blank cover letters, or apply to 4 jobs with custom letters, it’s obvious which one has a better chance of working out.
