Stacking vertically does kinda get there but there are some clear downsides. You can't access clothes in the back without taking off the whole stack. And it's visually a lot worse: you're just looking at like 5 shirts flatt

Electrified highways is a super interesting idea. In this video they're hybrids though - presumably they come up to speed with combustion and then just use the grid for cruising. And I don't think it's a huge cost to have a

The accomodation distance can be set to any value by the headset lens design. The problem he's discussing is that you can't change the distance depending on the content shown. Probably apple is setting the distance to 1 meter sin

If anyone’s wondering this is totally incorrect. In fact any guide for posture correction on the internet will recommend tons of focus on body awareness until you retrain movement patterns.

This honestly makes the raves sound kinda fun. I appreciate the author is self aware enough to realize they’re writing a cheesy “things were cooler X years ago” and nod to the fact that everyone is imitating someone, nothing is that origina

I'm really curious to see if expanding the context length this much will allow GPT to do typical software development tasks on a big codebase. If it can take in a github issue and produce decent code solving a complex issue across man

Cobra has this unique advantage that you can turn it on retroactively, so it's actually decently cheap for healthy individuals. You can just plan to not pay for it and then if things go wrong you can incur medical bills and send them

It seems like a HFT trader could arbitrage this pattern out by just taking it into account while planning other trades. If a HFT firm makes millions of trades a day, then they could just slightly bias their buys/sells by considering t

95% latency seems way more useful as a metric than max() would be. It’s better to spend most of your time improving the experience of most users rather than debugging ultra-rare issues that rarely affect users.

Did that work? I approve of the trend towards letting the body heal itself when possible. But I thought displaced bones generally need to be set, otherwise they can heal with incorrect angles and lose functionality, range of motion, etc.

We also don’t have much visibility into revenue now that it’s a private company. I’ve seen a lot of speculation that their ads product is falling apart and revenue is down. And obviously Twitter Blue seems to have been a chaotic failure.

I think it's up to local governments to require buildings to have some semblance of aesthetics taken into consideration. In the olden times a lot of buildings were built BY the future residents who had a stake in making it look nice.

HN really hates the idea of coding bootcamps for some reason. I think it's because the median HN person is pretty independent, libertarian, self-taught, etc and can't imagine any other model working for people.

There's something weird about cost-cutting metrics where they just aren't as impactful as they sound. FB has enough money floating around that many teams will write big systems inefficiently in the name of "moving fast"

Probably the insolvent exchanges are able to offer lower costs and better promotions to users. For instance Coinbase has always charged way higher fees than FTX for simple buying and selling of coins.

The U.S. government is pretty inept in general these days. It's hard to see how such an expansive govt regulation would get approved by the current Congress which gets deadlocked over pretty much anything.
