Sorry you feel abandoned. However, as you say you are an early adopter you should recognize this is a strong (even likely?) possibility. Yes, if the platform you invest in early is a success you can reap many rewards. But the mobile OS ma

The devious reason is because Google wants to encourage you to use their services, which will in turn improve their services and enable Google to provide more value to Android users. The more mundane reason is because it's a better loc

Seems pretty clear they're betting most corporate applications will be web-based, with custom managed Android apps as another front-end coming online.

I didn't extrapolate. I got that idea from watching the video. After Charlottesville, are you unconcerned about Nazis in the US? Also I notice you haven't commented on my point - is it just a coincidence that only women Googlers

Yes, I assume the same. There doesn't seem to be a large need to update the dex format so my assumption is this change enables faster compilation, perhaps by better integration with the Android Gradle plugin or incremental support.

I have good news for you! Android (which never had a JVM) Lollipop replaced its old runtime Dalvik with ART, which is on around 1.5B devices. ART actually compiles Android's bytecode to ELF, though Android calls their variant OAT. OA

Interesting POV, but I'd much rather develop for Android than any other platform. You are correct that currently developing for Android is not for the faint of heart. Happily, it also turns out understanding Java and Gradle and Intel

This is a very confusing argument. The summary seems to be Android defined as "a Linux kernel with libraries" is a dead end. Well, okay, although given its deployment on 2B devices it's probably the best argument for Linux.

One thing I've noticed with Scala is Scala devs love rewriting everything in Scala. Now, on one hand I totally get it, rewrites are fun and when you're coming from Java and get used to Scala you never want to write any more Java.

If downtime is an not an option, Lambda is not the solution. Amazon will automatically shut down instances of your Lambda if they haven't been used (~5-15 minutes), and starting a fresh Lambda has noticeable latency. So, some people
