Nope. In UK and even in Australia where I am, electric kettles are the norm. My grandmother did use a stovetop kettle though.

An example of this that I recently had was a 北斗一号. The first brew is extremely fragrant - smells of bubble milk tea, but has very weak flavour. The second brew brings out the flavour of the tea. You're supposed to let the first brew fi

You have a point. Costing the components of a PID might actually be better. That said, a PID controller for my espresso machine cost about $200, but that was everything packaged in nicely.

QC is tabulated under "various manufacturing costs". And yes, you are correct, it doesn't have shipping and dead goods costs. But I still think it's entirely serviceable as a back-of-envelope calculations

I've been given different prices on that. Some people say it's just $0.50, some claim it's more than $10 to buy PIDs in bulk.

I thought that markup was implicitly accepted in blog. I of course do not think that the price should be just the cost of the parts. In fact, I did mention that the fact that both $10 kettles and $39 kettles exist implies that there is some

I grew up with one. Having instantly accessible hot water was amazing. Then I moved out and had to use a kettle

Which is my point. A basic kettle should not cost much. The $100 kettles are those with temperature controls.

I noticed this on the lock screen. Often you'd have to tap multiple times on caps lock before it even turns on. I assume it's to prevent accidental caps locking, but it can be rather irritating

Are you using something like fail2ban? I'm seeing slightly higher activities on all my servers, but I doubt it's actually statistically significant (i.e. not different from random)

Holy crap. ARM's encoding makes so much sense... compared to what I have waded through at sandpile.org.

Not to forget, it is pretty easy to copy the AK47 design. The Register once called it The Open Source gun that took the world by storm[0] - it's actually a much better article than the Economist's [0] http://www.theregis

5000+ words a day isn't too difficult, really. Plus JS Oddities isn't going to be a very big book - about 20+ examples of rather crazy JS code and explanations

I ended up being productive - Started a new book ( https://leanpub.com/jsoddities ) and wrote some 20% of it while HN was down. Far more effective than my noprocrast

Assuming a RESTful vocabulary, is this only GET? What if I want to POST something to you? Or DELETE that kimchi burrito thing from your favourite foods? Wouldn't it be cooler to support more verbs?

Hey! Thanks for posting this to HN. I'm not quite sure of the code improvements myself. If anyone could repeat the benchmarks, it'd be great

Unicode Consortium is such an odd organization. Why is a snowman in the symbol table when the universal On/Off symbol isn't? What about the USB symbol?
