I don't like MS, either. BUT, let's be clear. No one is to obligated to work for free on OSS, not even big companies like MS. They have the right to constraint them to work on their own platforms. If you don't like it, you sh

Personally, I don't get why there are so many standards for the web platform. Can't we just provide a minumum set of APIs that developers can build their own UI on top of just like what we do for the desktop?

No, I don’t think Meta hates such algorithms. It just couldn’t beat TikTok algorithm-wise.

I don't know why I should switch from PyTorch to Tinygrad as a researcher and practitioner. In terms of kernel fusion, there is torch.compile. Not to say there is a large ecosystem behind PyTorch and almost every paper today is publish

Stating independence as the advantage of Llama 3.1 is a bit funny. Without the huge amount of computational resources from Meta, Llama 3.1 won't be possible. We are still dependent on certain big companys' "good" willnes

Also, S23 Ultra is equipped with Snapdragon 8Gen2, which is much more powerful than Tensor G3. The latter is almost equivalent to 8+Gen1 in terms of CPU and GPU.

It sounds like a BLIP2 with an extra linear layer for finetuning (or aligning the Q-former with a new LLM?). What makes it more powerful than BLIP2?

It is amazing to see how GPT is so much better than other LLMs. Should this be attributed to OpenAI's better training data?

Pinduoduo, commonly known as PDD in China, has had a poor reputation among Chinese users for a long time. It does not come as a surprise that they resorted to using backdoors to gain a competitive edge.

For me, Julia lags in deep learning compared to Python and lacks many valuable packages like PyTorch and PyG. Another reason that stops me from adopting Julia is that it lacks good learning resources. I can grasp Python within an afternoon.

I agree that the bundle size is a big concern. Another aspect that I am worried about is Python’s performance. JavaScript is not a fast language, and Python is an order of magnitude slower. What makes Python shine today rely on packages wit

This is exactly the same as what MS did for the Python extension when the open-source LSP was replaced by the proprietary Pylance. I get the feeling that MS becomes more and more likes Google. For example, on Android, the core experience is

When people say C is simple, they are referring to its conceptual simplicity. This gives people confidence that they have mastered the language. However, there may still be a number of corner cases of the language like undefined behaviors.
