I'm sure that Latin is also helped by the fact that word order makes very little difference, while we place a huge emphasis on it in English. One thing I love about Latin is that you can have the adjective at the start of a sentence an

That's not a problem with abstraction, though, that's a problem with the manufacturers. You can have complex, highly configurable software that's still locked down, and you can have simple, abstracted software that's ope

Fantastic post with really helpful tips. Thanks a lot for that. I really want to read the details on the spot instance setup for a web service. Do you have a quick summary for that?

Given the claims, it sounds incredibly unrealistic. Then again, legitimate news agencies like Reuters published the press release ( http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/11/21/ca-techweek-la-idU... ), but th

For the ssh section, I'd also include sshfs. It's super handy when you want to use local (or GUI) applications for a file on a server, or just to mount your home computer as a drive while you are away. I personally use it to mount

Just for the record, this site is a conspiracy theory site. It is definitely not anything close to a reliable news source, and really should not be on Hacker News.

Welcome to Hacker News! I don't mean for this to come off the wrong way, but please try to put more effort into your comments than Imgur links. This is a place for discussion, not one-liners and images. It may be that way on Reddit, bu

It's pretty interesting to look at the NSA leaks in hindsight, especially with an eye towards the foreshadowing and warning signs that exist today for the countless programs we don't know about. Take a look at this too, from a yea

The issue is not what we know, but what we don't. Keep in mind, all we have is what was leaked. We only have a tiny glimpse into the massive amounts of post-9/11 surveillance. We can ascertain that the government is doing extensiv

I put up a petition along those lines a little while ago here: https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/cease-overbroad-su... Enough signatures would be able to put pressure on the White House and gain an official response.

I had put up a similar petition here, which targets more widespread change: https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/cease-overbroad-su... The more signatures on both, the better the chance of an official response.
