I am having a hard time figuring out if this is a strange joke I'm failing to get or if you actually mean to suggest that Nazism is victimless.

AFAIK Autopilot is clearly marked as a beta and displays a dialog reminding you of that when you activate it in your car. And "full self-driving capability" is not a reference to Autopilot — it's saying that Tesla eventually

I think you misunderstand the data. This isn't "people who opted into Autopilot vs. people who opted out" — the no-Autopilot group is people whose Teslas were made before Autopilot was introduced.

I'll agree that the name "Autopilot" seems to mislead people, but that is a complete side track. Neither the person I replied to nor the person he replied to were talking about the name; they were talking about the technology

The NHTSA found a 40% safety improvement when comparing Teslas with Autopilot to Teslas without. I wouldn't put a huge amount of stock in the exact number, but because one group never uses Autopilot and the other offers a realistic vie

After the first fatality while on Autopilot, the NHTSA did a study on whether Autopilot was inherently safe and whether it had any defects that needed to be addressed. It found that Teslas with Autopilot were substantially safer than Teslas

And yet, according to the NHTSA, cars are still much safer with it than without it. You seem to be smack-talking rather than offering a reasoned analysis of whether Autopilot is better than no-Autopilot.

This seems like trying to argue that brakes are bad because, while people normally use them at times when they should stop, it's also possible to use your brakes at times when you shouldn't stop. The fact that something can be use

Also somebody who's been blinded by a bright light, or is suffering from a medical event, or is looking at their cell phone. There are lots of things that cause people to hit objects that should be easily avoidable.

What Tesla has seems to fit that definition. In fact, what Tesla has seems pretty similar to the autopilot in airplanes — both keep the vehicle on the right course without constant control from a human, but both require a human to be ready

The alternative to giving away your personal time for free to an open-source project is gouging people on vital medication? That doesn't seem true in any sense.

I think you probably mean "meme : culture :: atom : physics" (i.e. memes have the same relationship with culture that atoms do with physics).

That was exactly my point: A lot of the US is laid out in a way that is pessimal for mass transit — "hellscapes," as you put it — so investing in public transit infrastructure doesn't seem like enough to make a big difference

Will there be a lot fewer cars, though? Assuming you want to achieve the same throughput, you'd still need about as many cars as there are at rush hour today.

In most of America, this idea seems to be even less practical than self-driving cars. America is pretty much designed to be a pessimal case for public transit. San Diego, where I live, does invest in public transit infrastructure and has re

Why wouldn't flash memory give good access times with fragmented data? It's not like it needs to move a head around like a hard disk. Shouldn't one block be as accessible as any other block?

Then we would expect all whales to be baleen whales, but they aren't. The fact that only one branch of cetaceans has baleen suggests that it came about after the cetaceans' common ancestor went in the water.

There are lots of salient differences between tobacco and psychedelic mushrooms, but they are mostly of the "banning tobacco would be much more reasonable" variety. I think that was the point.

I don't know about oat milk specifically, but I've had yogurts made from soy, coconut and almond milk, and cheese made from almond milk and cashew milk. The yogurt is generally good if you like the base flavor of the kind of milk.
