Have you tried Hertz On Demand? I haven't yet, but it sounds very competitive to Zipcar. There are locations throughout cities, no membership fees, similar pricing, and time reservations. I'm not sure there's anything that can be done about

The app asked his friends if it was ok, but obviously not him, as he was not a Facebook user at the time.

One of the comments explains it -- the mobile app uploads all contacts. So when he entered in his phone number, existing Facebook users using the mobile app were matched because they had his phone number in their contacts.

I agree with the direction of your points, but not the magnitudes. Justin Bieber, Kendrick Lamar, Smashing Pumpkins, and Louis CK are already big stars who made it largely through the use of labels, and are thus bad examples. Independent ar

Justin Bieber had just 70k YT views [1] before he was discovered by Scooter Braun. He didn't make it big until he was signed with Braun and Usher. 70k views in 2008 wasn't nothing, but I don't think it's reasonable to assume he would have g

Agree, but it does debunk the suspicion of artificially constrained supply. Phones are too hot and cycle too quickly to string out sales.

I've bought a MBP every year for 6 years. I spend so much time on them that it's absolutely worth it to get increased performance and space. My current rMBP has 16GB RAM and 512 GB SSD -- more than enough. But I'll get the next rMBP for one

In addition to bcbrown's comment, trust/security is a factor. Neighbors may allow their kids to play in the hallway or go down to the lobby and check the mail on their own. But if there's a sense that the neighbors aren't known, then parent

I disagree. You're concerned about polluting the marketplace when, in fact, the marketplace is already polluted. There are already poor Rails programmers who work for $15/hour -- prob not in the US, but certainly elsewhere. It's not just pr

That's somewhat true, but it sounds like one of the goals is to get general feedback on the Android platform and its ecosystem of apps as well. For example, Path does a beautiful job using rich notifications in 4.1 (you see the uploaded pho

It's amazing how many people put up with terrible software at work, complain about it, are powerless to do anything about it, and simply plod on. Custom tools with very fixable gaps don't get closed; old versions of licensed software don't

There's also the "hero night." It's pulling off an all nighter to accomplish a seemingly impossible task with a hard deadline. This happens about once a year, and it was in April for me this year. The company had 24 hours for an opportunity

I don't think this is a marketing technique. I think Google + LG have genuinely screwed this one up through underestimation of demand, manufacturing/supply problems, or both. There's too much competition in phones right now for them to give

Silicone keyboard skins cut down on typing noise. It's a little weird at first, but I've found them to be helpful at keeping debris out as well as being the guy typing in a meeting without people looking at me. I always bring earbuds with m

To be fair to Chernin, he's a board member, not a leadership executive. Most Twitter employees will never meet him and many may not even know who he is (or the other board members). Smaller companies have a board that's much closer to the e

I think one of the goals of the project is to seen what develops when bandwidth is increased by 2+ orders of magnitude. The constraints suddenly change and it's hard to predict where it might lead. Think about our connections today and what

I don't necessarily disagree, but remember that while you may be saying "learn dot," your users/customers are saying "Hey, you should check out learn dot dot com." You can train your team, but you can't train your customers.

The number of possible outcomes is not the same as the probabilities of those outcomes. If I have a weighted coin that shows heads 90% of the time, there are two possible outcomes, but I'm happy to bet you $1 heads each time we flip the coi
