If you are lucky, yes. For example, I have a choice between CityFibre (XGS-PON), Openreach (GPON) and Virgin Media (DOCSIS) as well as 2 different 5G networks. It is rare for a property to only be covered by a single wired network these day

Ideally any ISP resorting to CGN would be providing IPv6 support, but Tailscale shows that nat hole-punching can work well [1]. I'm not sure if that's feasible to implement in a web browser though. [1] https://tailscale

I really like rootless podman, but there is one quirk in that if you want to preserve the original source IP address (e.g. for web server logs), you have to use a workaround which has a performance penalty. https://github.com

I like the implementation, but it looks like nobody has pointed out that Python already has a built-in string template system [1]. Granted, it's not quite as simple to use, but I have been using it for a while. [1] https://d

If you can use an algorithm, and you do not have to share the logic, you might as well just make the algorithm return "denied" every time.

The best form of encryption is a one-time pad. It is mathematically proven to be unbreakable, unlike every other form of encryption. If you can exchange a 100MiB pad file with each contact, you should be set for life if all you exchange is

Out of interest, did you try changing the value of commit_delay? This parameter allows multiple transactions to be written together under heavy load.

That sounds like double/triple glazing which is has been around for years in Europe. The most common type uses Argon as an insulator, but there are also vacuum versions. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Insulated_glaz

My business is fiber broadband, and we are laying as much as we can! Fortunately the legislative environment in the UK is conducive to this goal. For now we provide XGS PON (10Gbs minus overhead), with 50G PON becoming available in some loc

Perhaps there is an app that makes using one-time pads simple. It is really the only way to be reasonably certain that your communication is protected. With storage so abundant it is feasible to share a 100MiB pad for each contact which sho

It has been said that a system is not the sum of its parts, but the product of the interactions between its components. I hope someone can remind me who said this.

I am lucky I have access to a company AWS account, otherwise I would never have started to learn their ecosystem. I cannot afford the personal risk of a massive unexpected bill.

That is surprising. If anything, I would expect the toslink signal to be superior as it is completely galvanically isolated. Is it possible that there is dirt affecting the signal, either in the sockets or on the plugs?

In the UK, we are tending towards separating the FNO (fiber network owner) and the ISP. The larger FNO's will provide wholesale access to multiple ISP's. There are some smaller operators that are both FNO and ISP, but I am not awa

In a typical passive optical network, one PON port is connected to 128 clients through the use of PLC splitters - unlike a WDM splitter which will insert or remove a specific wavelength, these simply split the whole signal. Where I work, th
