Just because nobody has mentioned it yet, there is a file format called zpaq [1] which is incremental and journaling with good support for linux, mac and windows. It support multi-threaded compression and error detection and recovery. [1]

I hope you are right; I see WebAssembly (or a potential successor) to be the missing gap in the ecosystem, which Java (as well as some previous small attempts) attempted to be. Since javascript (or ecmascript for the purists) now runs serve

I hope this is not a silly question, but does the schema in step 2 need to be saved to a file somewhere?

Would it not be simpler to issue an SSL certificate for the IP address for the outer connection (kind of like how EAP works with inner and outer identities) instead of relying on a DNS RR?

I am grateful that this kind of testing occurs for the benefit of end users. 1 in half a billion (or milliard if you are old English) is not acceptable with the speed that modern computers run.

I am slightly surprised by the choice to use ECMAScript instead of WebAssembly.

This article covers a lot of important points, but I must nitpick one in particular. GMT is not a timezone. Europe/London is a timezone. GMT is solar time which is distinct from UTC as a time system. The purpose of leap seconds is to t

This is cost prohibitive, and I doubt most residential ISP's have the capability for this. I would like to have both a cable and a DSL ISP for redundancy but it's far from straightforward with IPv6 (and I have run IPv6 networks fo

Just as a point of interest, sqlite is behind the geopackage [1] specification, which is a common format for exchanging geospatial data. [1] https://www.geopackage.org/

It sounds like another way to get people to visit google sites. Presumably if you email someone who isn't on gmail they will get a link they have to open in a browser, and unless you enable invasive javascript, you will not be able to

I never could figure out why Orkut did not see the success that Facebook did. Unfortunately this incarnation requires an Android or iOS app so it is a non-starter for me.

I have heard a similar story that existed in my company before it joined. It was a system that raised and dispatched jobs to engineers, and unless the space bar was held down on the master terminal, it stopped sending jobs out.

I thought the same thing about PGP/GPG keyservers. They are supposed to be immutable so if someone uploaded a key containing a jpeg attachment depicting illegal content, the only course of action would be to wipe every server in the ne

The cynic in me thinks this is already known and is in use by a "strategic partner" as a vector. The next version will only make it harder to find and exploit.
