I lost complete trust in PayPal after my account was compromised AFTER i set up two-factor authentication (annoying to this day, they still do not support U2F. I got them to credit me some of the money back, but after cancelling my cards,

Maybe everybody should set app.normandy.user_id to "anonymous". I am disappointed that Mozilla still has unique tracking ids embedded in Firefox.

I could not find any information on how to compile the compiler itself. Trying to run this on CentOS 7 fails because it is looking for libjpeg.so.8, but CentOS provides libjpeg.so.62.

No matter how good they are, if an accident were to happen, I would want the presence of a human, if nothing else because you need one person to administer first aid while another gets help. If I was on my own I would probably be panicking

I really like the idea of a cryptographically provable signature for a set of coordinates in space and time, but not sure how such a thing is possible.

I have always thought that time would be best stored as milliseconds from TAI. It is a measure that is universally constant and unambiguous.

(Un)fortunately, TLS 1.3 will prevent MITM from working unless you are able to install a trusted root ca cert on the device, which I doubt is possible on Chromecast devices.

How is this supposed to work when most web pages these days are a mash of dynamically generated javascript?

This is all well and good until Google decides to force the use of DNS-over-HTTPS and completely bypasses the host operating system. Browsers have also done this for certificate trust lists. This takes more and more power away from the user

Does this mean if you want to keep your profile when upgrading Firefox to a new version you will have to have a Firefox Account to sync your settings? I do not think that Sync carries over extension settings (e.g. all the custom site settin

If you can now run your development tools on Haiku, what would it take to make Haiku a server platform for running your server-side applications?

There is a 19-year old bug open for SRV support in Firefox [1] and it recently got updated (marked as blocking #1435798 APIs for p2p web applications) [1] https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=14328

If your house has a gas leak, in the UK the local gas distribution network has the right to enter your property to stop the leak because it may well cause damage, injury or even death.

You could use two independent dns providers for the same domain (i call it inverse split horizon). I am a proponent of dns service discovery (using NAPTR and SRV records) so that by going to e.g. www.github.com, the dns provides a list of s

I noted that if you assign public addresses on the vSwitch network, it is limited to 1TB free transfer per month, with each additional TB charged at €1 (plus tax) per TB (for outgoing traffic).

I have had both disks in my Hetzner server replaced (at different times), but they are in software raid1 so hardly caused any downtime for me. They were extremely quick, efficient, and no-nonsense about it.

Surely they can see from the location data provided by yours and their phones, that you have diverged? The system should detect this automatically.

Yikes! This is a non-starter for me. I have 4 keys (3 stored in safe places - yes this is inconvenient when setting up a new account, but this is the trade-off for security). What a strange decision.

This is interesting and I hope I can find a use case for it. However, the performance compared to vanilla SQLite makes me anxious that there is a trade-off elsewhere, such as crash integrity.

I don't see the point. I have 4 U2F tokens, 1 I keep on my person, 1 I keep at home, and 2 in other safe places. The only downside is if I lose I token I then have to log into all my online accounts which support U2F to update my list
