What are you even talking about?? "Stallman, et. al are also against anyone making any money from building software" This is utter non-sense. I think you are confusing "free as in freedom" with "free as in free beer

It is hilarious to see how agrieved Apple (and Android) fanboys here have become to read the FSF post. Android and Apple, both have proprietary code. Both are inappropriate intrusions on users' freedom. Is it so hard to understand?

This is just speculation. I don't see any concrete signs of EBay integrating bitcoins support in PayPal in the near term.

I don't understand why this post is featured on HN. It is just commentary on a previous essay, and doesn't even sound like a comprehensive commentary; just a few observations.

That is for the official record. Even Yahoo won't know how many users' data was compromised via NSA backdoors. A regular user should never trust Yahoo and other such services.

Android is "open source", yet there may be restrictions on your ability to compile and run your copy of the source code on your device. Can you trust the OEMs that they are running the same code as you have a copy of?

No one is forcing anyone. It is just a courtesy, not a binding, to acknowledge the group who built the OS ground up. The GNU project had built all pieces of the OS, before convincing Linus Torvalds to release his proprietary kernel code in

Because X, KDE, GNOME etc. were all built using the core tools that GNU project provides. Most notably the gcc compiler. The Android system uses the Linux kernel, but should people refer to the OS as "Linux" or "Android"

"GNU/Linux" is the OS, "Linux" is just the kernel. The GNU project is responsible for many of the crucial parts responsible for making a complete OS, save for the kernel. Abbreviating the OS with "Linux",

Open source software is not same as free software. One needs free software (which is open source, as well as give users complete freedom) to ensure their privacy.

Why fix if it ain't broke? I don't think this Wayland port is needed. Would be better to spend engineering effort to add more features to GNOME and make the existing experience smoother.
