This is my observation as well, especially in startups. So much spaghetti thrown at walls and that pressure falls in devs to have higher velocity when it should fall on product, sales, exec to actually make better decisions.

"Learn to code" was convincing because it came packaged with a kernel of truth, yes you could make it big by learning how to code even though the undertone of the phrase reeked of "Don't be poor", as if it were a si

If this is true, why isn't our compensation scaling with the increases in productivity?

The benefit of doing it like this is that I also get to learn from the LLM. It will surprise me from time to time about things I didn't know and it gives me a chance to learn and get better as well.

If you replaced every worker with someone else of equal skill of course manufacturing company would continue to operate. Making employees replaceable cogs is what industrialization was completely about. It's what happened during global

There are alternatives to YT for educational content, like Nebula. However, even that platform lacks control and it's slowly getting flooded with non educational content. It sucks because there is no solution here short of curating you

Preach. How long does it take train someone to get them to $45hr level of experience? The truth is that it doesn't. Companies love using yoe as an excuse to pay newer workers less. Manufacturing is not like software engineering where y

Lol, $25hr. McDonald's entry-level wage is $20hr in CA. The $5 premium is not enough of an incentive to move to the middle of nowhere for a job.

The 10 cents is BS. It was only that because it was a trivial bug. A non-trivial bug requires context and the more context something requires, the more expensive it gets. Also once you are working with larger apps you have to pick the conte

It's the human scaling problem. What systems can be used to scale humans to billions while providing the best possible outcomes for everyone? Capitalism? Communism? Another possibility is not let us scale. I thought Logan's Run wa

This seems like a case of not managing expectations. The following should be clear: 1. We fire fast. 2. We don't want to fire people and will do our best to help you succeed. 3. Here are the bars you need to clear in order to stay with

This is exactly what happens when Product completely takes over the dev. team and they aren't given any control over their craft. Dev. team should always have x% amount devoted to things by devs for devs.

Same here. I've worked really hard to not end up in miserable position. I also realize there are things not in my control. If work changes, you can either change work or just leave. Leaving is often the much better option. This reminds

I have a similar tale. A semester before college ended, I got a professor who worked for a large company in the poultry business. I was one of the few people who was doing well in the Java 101 class and I was also going out of my way to hel

Huge fan of Aider, but one thing it's lacking is dealing with non coding tasks. I've been wanting to use it as an assistant in Obsidian, but it's got shortcomings dealing with and editing MD files. Would love to see another p

If I had to guess, it's because "old dogs can't learn new tricks" rationale whoch doesn't make sense. How about judging innovation on its merit regardless of age.
