Dropbox won't analyse and sell you left and right. You cannot compare these two services. One is a service, one is an ad machine.

Imo github has the much better user interface. I wouldn't say gl became bloated, but it is not easy to navigate around. At one point, I think, it is necessary to 'rethink' the UI, i.e. to arrange the parts into one consistent

I agree somewhat. But Microsoft (or any company) cannot support a product for years without revenue. As an example I bought Win8 (unusable), free upgrade 8.1 (still terrible), free upgrades 10 (better, but still prefer mac/ubuntu). As

You have the priorities wrong imho: There is one checkbox to switch off the ad vs. Google's data mining where Google aggregates a full profile about you and some billion other people. And (except china-like) there is no simple

No sarcasm intended. The op chooses to use uber and profit from low cost fares. He pays little and uber is only able to pay out meagre to their drivers. Uber is not profitable, they cannot pay their drivers better without raising the fares.

In the end you are the reason that uber drivers are being paid so little and have such bad working conditions! Btw, couldn't you ride a bike sometimes? 6 miles sounds doable and would, likely, benefit your health.

Well then Mozilla better would spend their resources more wisely and refrain from political influenced decisions, e.g. Thunderbird, FirefoxOS, Brendan Eich. Mozilla/Firefox lost much respect from me (not that they will or should care;)

I don't know. Maybe HN should refrain from this subject. Never trust any statistics that you didn't... - Believe this or go with the anecdotal real-world experience from a cop, linked below, Peter Springare, see e.g. http:/&

Julia is mostly (> 65 %) written in Julia. There's some C (20 %, bootstrap etc.), some C++ (8 % llvm interface), some scheme (4 %, parser). I think it's one of the main points, that Julia should be strong enough that such thing

No traction because it's a mess. No git, no markdown, no clear organization, dated look in almost everything. Very unuserfriedly to just 'hop in'. No money unfortunately and most (all?) devs do it in their sparetime. Splitted

I don't think this is a fair assessment. Before forking an attempt has been made 'to make vim' better. It's open source thus imho all is well if there are two source trees with different 'philosophies' (one &#x

Quite schizophrenic of the company to open up every information/book/news they can crawl and on the other hand close down the little interior world as much as possible. Not that this would be news or unexpected though.

If something is called 'Ubuntu', I expect Ubuntu to be inside and not some (heavily) modified code. Wouldn't want my own open source software to be associated with a (maybe faulty) derivative either.
