I think the article is actually quite readable. However, the fact that javascript is required to render any text does irk me a little. Edit: I may have jumped the gun: the site now seems to be loading fine without js.

Bookmarked. Thanks, I'm sure I've used your archive in the past to grab the odd missing episode. If you get chance and haven't already seen it, Andy's “satirist for hire” stand-up show is superb.

Agreed. My favourite's got to be episode 152. The world is indebted to John Oliver for the term "fuckeulogy": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AVb84n-FFx4

Anyone who likes Last Week Tonight should also check out the Bugle podcast Oliver hosts with Andy Zaltzman. Satire at its best: http://www.thebuglepodcast.com/

You get a standard SSL certificate free for a year with domain names at Gandi.net. I think I'm also right in saying transfers are included. Can't really vouch for their security but from what I have read the company's "n

It's hard not to expect this sort of appalling behaviour from the Daily Mail but they really have pushed the boat out this time. As much as I disagree with the Daily Mail, speaking objectively, I think you have to say Paul Dacre has ac

For me, Gimp, Scribus and InkScape cover just about anything I would want to do but, then again, I'm not a professional designer. They take a bit of learning that's all. Scribus reminds me of QuarkXPress which I always preferred t

I don't think PowerTop's been mentioned. Maybe because it's more useful for a laptop than a server. Once calibrated, it can output a HTML report on a machine's consumption, which includes a handy list of tunable power sa

For me, the book that instantly jumps to mind is The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. Nothing else I've read – let alone this year – comes anywhere even close to having had such an impact on me. Yet, the more I think about specifically “how

You're not the only one. Switched a few months back after using Arch for years. It was one hell of a time sink to begin with but I find it to be unfathomably stable for a rolling release distro. I'll be sticking with it, at least

For me, the most worrying part of the whole Snowden affair is the absence of anything even close to resembling a debate in parliament. The silence almost speaks for itself. First, Julian Smith secured a 30-minute Westminster Hall tirade on

Defending the Press is almost universally unpopular. However, I think there's a important distinction to be made here. Namely that Martha Gill's piece is comment and not news. Hence it's filed under 'blogs'. Opinion

From my experience, I can only agree. Aged 24, I was given responsibly for a near 150-year-old weekly newspaper which is read by more than 30,000 people a week. Needless to say, I ended up working a quite ridiculous amount of unpaid overtim
