At least show the authors, so that they can decide how much to disclose to their readers.

There is nothing wrong as long as it is done in a transparent way. Without that transparency, authors are potentially subjecting their readers to click-tracking without being able to give appropriate disclosures.

Right up until MS changed their implementation, say to version 7. MSIE's implementation of XHR exposed internal details of the ActiveX-based implementation which were subject to change-- it was never meant to be an external API, but rather,

There is a notion of special directories under Windows, so you can request the Program Files directory without knowing even what drive it would be on. I do realize that a path-based whitelisting approach would introduce unwanted limitations

I honestly don't think that was the point at all. Yes, XHR allowed for AJAX to follow, and was rather revolutionary. That said, the original implementation was very tied not just to MSIE, but to ActiveX and, by extension, to the Windows pla

This seems to me to be a rather daft policy for determining which files are sensitive and which aren't. To be sure, I don't know what the right way would be-- I'm guessing something based on paths would work a lot better-- but this solution

Odd that they're missing the WePad ( http://www.wepad.mobi/en ), which seems like one of the more serious contenders to me. Maybe I'm just being taken in by the hype, but they seem to have quite an impressive product on display.

I prefer Weave Sync ( http://mozillalabs.com/weave/ ), as it syncs settings, open tabs and browser history as well, and since, like Xmarks, it encrypts everything and lets you use your own server. I hope that Weave Sync one day makes it int

It has been, but all the drafts are spec and subject to change. I think it's early enough in the process that trying to get cross-browser support is somewhat infeasible-- the spec is still too much of a moving target.

While I don't like global menus in general, it makes a lot of sense for netbooks, I think. I look forward to seeing this one come to fruition. That said, I agree with one of the commenters on the OP that pointed out the difficulties posed

That gets back to what Docotrow called the Benevolent Dictatorship of DRM. Here, DRM still represents giving Netflix an inordinate amount of control over the work and how it's licensed and how it's used. Moreover, that argument doesn't expl

Great argument as to why C++, though it works for functional programming in some technical sense, is far less than ideal.

For my personal systems, I choose names of demons (since they run lots of dæmons). I get a little thrill out of not knowing what to name something, and taking it as an excuse to go look up cool names.

As I said elsewhere, that's false equivalency. Just because AGW-denialism is not orthodox doesn't mean that it's on equal footing with AGW. By your argument, the government should fund intelligent design (or should I say evolution denialism

Did you actually read what "hide the decline" meant? Go learn about proxies and you'll see that what they mean is that there is a false decline in proxy temperatures that must be corrected for, likely due to increased CO₂ concentrations cha

[citation needed] All joking aside, the CRU e-mail hack revealed no such thing. To say otherwise is either ignorant or dishonest.

That's false equivalency. The NSF doesn't fund research to show that the earth is flat, because it isn't. Just because the well-tested AGW hypothesis exists doesn't mean that AGW denialism is on equal footing.

If you're going to cry out censorship, then at least have the common decency not to rely on the tired old CRU/climategate scam. This has been rather thoroughly and soundly debunked over and over again. Denialist papers get rejected from pee

Actually, you'll find that we're doing both. It is perfectly valid to point out conflicts of interest (it's a favored denialist tactic to invent CoIs that don't even exist, so isn't it hypocritical to take umbrage when CoIs are brought up?)

Not if it's a generic webpage that is viewed in Safari. If I'm not terribly much mistaken, that's the whole point of this project-- it gets around 3.1.1 by using offline support in Safari. After all, Processing.js is not technically pure Ja

Very nice. It'd be cool to see the same approach taken with a Python or Haskell interpreter written in JS, too. Slightly off-topic, but does anyone know what keeps this IDE from working in Firefox 3.5?

Which is a real act of moving the goalposts, really. Can video games only be art if they compare with masterworks? What, then, of those poets today whose works will fail to stand the test of time? Are they doomed to have all their toils "no
