Of course I'd sit. I just convinced him the worthiness of my idea, and in dealing with someone so prideful, you have to show some face to get the business. When arguing with such stubborn and prideful people, the best conclusion that can ha

I'm sure you could come up with a list of should-have-dones in hindsight for every company out there. Given enough time, I'm sure the same could be said for Google (couldn't they have prevented the facebook fiasco?). Besides, didn't MS just

If myspace used that system, they'd have about 99 million less users.

The point is not to replace Google, but to change the rules so Google's strengths are neutralized. I didn't dream this up, it's straight from Clayton Christensen. Since nobody knows what the next rule changes will take effect, anyone can be

Chinese is a relatively stable country governed by one Communist party, while Africa is a vast continent with dictatorships, instability, pockets of wealth, religious wars, famine, etc...? Is that the answer?

Someone once told me you're only gay if you fall in love with a man. Having sex doesn't mean anything except you had sex with a man.

I'll throw my 2pesos in as well and concur here. Though I do feel the pain of traversing down the call stack to dig up where the magic is. Ruby for Rails has a great chapter on digging into Rails core code which helped me a lot.

Being technical and having industry knowledge is a powerful combination. I don't think the past career in nursing is sunk cost at all...just the opposite.

I haven't ever actually, but I may have to start now.

It seems to me that the entire study of philosophy is comprised of arguments based on linguistic puns; how else to express our thoughts? As long as we are limited by language, any existing language, we are constrained by its syntax and sema

There might be something there, good observation. Notice his latest post talks about how his site survived the slashdotting, redditing, etc...and his promise of more info about his deployment environment in a future post. Pretty soon, he'

I don't think so. He mentioned in his first post he was going to follow up with a part II where he will thank a few people.

Well said. That's why it's important to work on things you care about; even in downturns, you'll still be motivated to create.

In certain societies and cultures, it's common to have a "master", "guru", or mentor to help out a young apprentice. It's actually an expected way of life. We don't seem to have that in the US, or at least, it's not taught as a necessity gr

Yea, corruption is a big problem. Bribery, or gift giving, is a way of life for many Chinese people. When I was in elementary school, my mom made me bring food over every time I went to a friend's house. I'd show up ready to play Nintend

I get the feeling from traveling there fairly frequently and talking to some of the yuppies there that, unlike 5 or 10 years ago, all is not lost if you don't attend college and follow the hierarchy. There is a growing creative class who w

It's a good observation, but of course, not a complete one. China is still mired in thousand year old traditions and the country as a whole is more analogous to a diverse Europe than an evenly developed country like the US. This article ob

Judging by the popularity of sites like partypoker and pokerstars and ESPN's constant coverage of WSOP, I don't think poker is that niche or long tail anymore. You picked a rapidly growing market that was fast moving up the "tail".

It IS confusing, but it's confusing on purpose. It's meant to convey complexity and seriousness. Look at all the parts and functions -- you'll need to talk to an experienced sales rep and follow up with some service engagements from our con

I saw it turning counterclockwise and could not see how it could possibly spin clockwise. Then I tilted my screen a tad and am now seeing it spin clockwise, and cannot "make it" spin counterclockwise again. Very cool.

I haven't a clue, but I suspect a lot.

Well, what I meant was I could be wandering the streets of Beijing and going to work would be as easy as hitting up the nearest web-bar/internet cafe. As far as I know, they don't have them nifty EVDO cards in Beijing...

I like Tim Ferris (saw him at SXSW) and read his book. But his book seems like a long commercial for himself and his "get rich quick" shortcuts smell very much of a fad. He may be a great promoter and his techniques may be interesting, bu

If it works smoothly, this will be awesome. I can literally travel the globe and work from any internet cafe. However, I suspect there will be a lot of growing pains and bugs along the way. But it's a great idea and I'm looking forward

Kamikaze pilots are not the same as terrorists. Terrorists, as the name suggests, mean to inflict psychological damage -- terror -- to the population, including civilians. They do this by committing the most atrocious thing possible. Kam
