Doing drugs doesn't necessarily damage your brain. Why don't you think seeing the world from a different perspective could lead to a deeper understanding of it?

Clojure is my favorite language, and I love Rich Hickey, but I don't think I would have sought out something like Clojure if not for PG's essays. There was a tweet from Nathan Marz that I felt summed it up nicely a while back "Paul Graham s

After using a T410 for a couple of years, I don't know if I would ever buy another laptop without a trackpoint.

We attempted to make something very similar at a hackathon. It's cool to see a more polished, complete version. Ours was more of an attempt to make a version of typeracer ( http://play.typeracer.com/ ) using code samples from rosetta code

I haven't read Halloway's, but I found the O'reilly book much more helpful for learning Clojure than The Joy of Clojure. They're both great, but I'd definitely read the O'Reilly book before Joy.

I actually very recently searched HN for "hacker commune", I'm definitely open to it. Unfortunately I don't have many friends who I think would be interested, though it sounds pretty affordable even alone. One of my major concerns is findin

This is why I'm interested in starting freelancing/consulting. I think I'd enjoy being location independent more than I'd enjoy working at someone else's startup. Living somewhere cheap and only working part time while spending the rest of

I'm kind of surprised that a company based around scraping CL would get into YC. I know a lot of people do it, but it wasn't exactly unknown that it was against craigslist's TOS.

I don't know much about Erlang, can you expand on why you think it'd be a better fit? Is it just memory usage?

Strange to see people being so hard on the presentation. I can't tell if I have low standards or I'm blinded by really liking Rich Hickey and his work, but I thought it was fine, and I love the concept.

Do you have a recommendation for a nice cheap IPS? I'm in the market for a monitor, I'd be interested to see what other developers recommend.

I'm not sure what you mean by "serious developer", but I went to my first hackathon about 2 weeks ago, and I had a good time. I met a lot of cool people, as well as learned a lot. It was nice to set aside the time and really focus on gett

After writing a decent amount of Clojure recently, underscores do seem ugly, but I think I find commas even more annoying. I can accept underscores for the reasons raganwald mentioned, but having to write [1, 2, 3] instead of just [1 2 3]

I'm happy to see you name names. I've seen too many posts where people mention being wronged but then let the guilty parties of the hook. I can't imagine any company wouldn't hire you because of this is a company you'd want to work for .
