Because the camera comes in a neat box with resonable weather tightness and it is easier to setup and connect. IP cameras also have the advantage of not needing a power brick.

I got a couple of Lenovo i5s with 8Gb for 99 Euros each on Amazon a few months ago. They even came with a 500Gb SSD and Windows 8 installed (or was it Windows 7? I can't remember, they are running Ubuntu at the moment). They are much b

Very long article but well worth the read. Scary stuff: "...a former drug trafficker from Colombia told South Florida detectives that she had switched to trafficking aircraft parts instead. After all, the money was almost as good — by

We have fiber connecting all islands and one subsea cable connected to Portugal mainland. Maybe the US military have a hidden one connected to North America, but I doubt. If you give me a domain/IP that is in NA I will ping/trace

It is a bummer, yes, we have fiber across all Azores' islands but latency to the US is high because we have to go through mainland Europe.

You can only use this edition if you make less than 5000 USD and/or have less than 5 devs. If you do, licenses start at 1000 USD per year. Assuming a commercial app, of course.

I hope flywheel storage takes off (no pun intended) it seems such a logic solution when compared with water elevation or chemical solutions. Why hasn't it gone mainstream yet?

You are right, it is a small market. I am surprised about the raw milk, though, I read of places in the US that sell raw milk, cheese, etc. Maybe it is legal in some states? I also heard of companies that go to your farm to put down your ca

It is not possible to compete on price with feed lots, only on quality. Feed lots are more efficient if the only thing you're measuring is weight of meat per acre.

I don't have a reference for this but I remember reading that Microsoft had to create Wordpad from scratch because they lost the code for Write. I do remember that when they introduced Wordpad it was missing several features present in

I don't get this whole commotion with LLMs and education. Isn't a Show & Tell and presencial classes enough to weed out the cheaters? LLM is a killer for homework but not when you are in a class with a teacher present.

I don't know if it is the same issue but AC lines longer than a certain distance will approach the wave length of an antena and start to radiate energy (like a radio broadcast antena). In that case you use DC. When I studied this back

I run my own self-hosted email server for the last 15 years but I had to move to this hybrid system recently because Microsoft (outlook.com, hotmail.com, etc) blocked all the IPs of my hosting company. It is a shame but there's no poin

The easiest way is to use an SMTP service like smtp2go to send the emails but I am not sure if it invalidates the point (you still host the email server, just not the SMTP side).

It is strange that it does that given that there's plenty of free memory available in the system (it has 256Gb of RAM and wasn't running anything else).

Thanks, -t 32 (instead of -t 13 which is what comes as default) makes a big difference in CPU usage across all cores. Not quite 100% but all cores are above 50% with many at 100%. It speeds up just a tiny bit the eval t/s to 3.3 (from

Yes, I run the 4bit, 70B on a threadripper 32 core using llama.cpp. It uses around 37Gb of RAM and I get 4-5 tokens per second (slow but usable). Core usage is very uneven with many cores at 0% so maybe there's some more performance to

I assume you are talking about a Windows/Linux PC. I have done that and got a Threadripper with 32 cores and 256Gb RAM. It runs any llama on the CPU although the 65/70b are quite slow. I also added an A6000 (48Gb VRAM) that allows
