I have the original Wolfenstein disk for the Apple ][, complete with typed label. Out of curiosity, I did email people at id software asking about Castle Wolfenstein and what the copyright status was, in maybe... 1997?, and got a emailed sh

(Not OP) Oatly's process is patented, so you can look up what they do. That places some restrictions on using it in the same markets, of course. I think it's this one: http://patft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Par

You are confusing principle with implementation. Reducing clock speed reduces power usage and you can compensate with more cores is indeed a truth. However, finding that option in consumer hardware has been relatively difficult. That is

Huge, multinational corporations with products in every house and business across the world also write a small minority of unpredictable, difficult-to-diagnose bugs. (Meltdown, Spectre, LazyFP, the next shoe that drops in a few days, for ea

You are misinterpreting the sentence. Most people's exhaustive testing regimen is to try something a few times, shrug, and say "works for me". Not necessarily for file systems, but for a lot of software issues. When I wrot

For what it's worth: Sepherosa Ziehau spent some years serving out huge streams of video in a company similar to Netflix, in China. He used DragonFly. So, it may not have the same changes you are listing, but it may be closer than yo

What Elhana said - mount_hammer2 isn't included in /usr/share/initrd so it's not copied into the image used there. You can build a new initrd - cd into src/share/initrd/sbin, add it to the makefile, t

This is a poor study. The "control" of NYC doesn't match Seattle in most every respect, and switching to Bellvue - well, you can read the paper where they say Bellvue followed the state minimums instead of the raises that Se

Refrigerating bread ruins it. Freezing does not. (Which the linked article does state.)

Outside of this not-really-helpful study, I can say that sourdoughs do tend to have a longer shelf life without preservatives; they resist staling and mold better than white bread, all things being equal. Commercial bread usually has prese

Really "gluten-free" means that someone with severe celiac disease could eat there, and the acceptable levels of flour/gluten/whatever have to be very, very low. So low that you will probably need two separate food prep

I hope - and I admit I am biased this way - that 'gluten-sensitive but not celiac disease' suddenly evaporates, sort of like MSG headaches turned out to be not a thing. Except I want it to happen faster.

Adding butter, powdered milk, or even dried potato into the recipe will often give a softer crust. A small amount can go a long way! Another trick is to brush the loaf itself with melted butter, especially after taking it out. These no-kn

You can get a similar benefit to taste without changing texture by using a preferment; i.e. a biga or poolish, depending on what term you like. Let the preferment sit overnight, then mix it into your "normal" loaf recipe, and cook

Selling to restaurants is reliable but low-profit, because you're selling in bulk. Selling direct to consumers has a much better margin. Margins are not high in baking to begin with, so it helps. The direct demand can't be sche

More people using IPv6 on DragonFly would help tease out issues... but then again more people using IPv6 in general would help, too.

You are confusing developer bandwidth with network bandwidth. He's not saying IPv6 network performance is slow, he's saying he doesn't have as much time as he'd like to work on it.

Petty history aside, the project needs to be more open in communication. There's too many secret mailing lists and mystery discussion, which is a common thread in all the problems the list describes.

Hello, fellow Reynaud Syndrome sufferer! Lots of unhelpful advice in other posts: gloves don't work, because heat is brought to your hands by blood flow. Blood flow is cut off, which is why they are cold in the first place. Exercise

Completely avoiding sugars and grains? That's not easier; you trade a less complicated rule for severe diet restrictions. Applying that rule about less processed foods will help with sugars and carbs too. i.e. an apple and hard candy

This makes it sound like the reason you are losing weight isn't the keto diet - it's the lower calorie total. Ketosis is the framework you are using to stick to it, not the method itself. The result is the same for you, but that
