Trump-supporting tech mogul First sentence of the article is inaccurate. Thiel was a supporter in 2016 but was uncertain in 2020. Why is The NY Times considered quality journalism, again?

I don’t think it is that complicated. Thiel is at heart a libertarian and always has been. But if you listen to him speak, he is constantly lamenting the lack of hard tech development. “We wanted flying cars but all we got is 40 characters.

Eastern Europe isn’t included with in “Western countries.” Hence the name, Eastern. I really wouldn’t consider Latin America to be in the West either.

Montparnasse is not trendy, arty, or in central Paris. No one who has spent any amount of time in Paris would say that it is. Parisian studio apartments are also roughly the size of an American bathroom. It is not a luxurious life.

The entire premise of “misinformation” is that a true media exists which gives accurate information, as opposed to the army of people out to nefariously influence the public. I’m simply suggesting that there is fundamentally no difference.

Not a good example. Japan is famously insular and large enough to support a domestic audience. Virtually every smaller country in Europe and Latin America consume American media voraciously.

to be paid money to post and retweet things that they were told to post and retweet by some patron? What do you think the network of “real media” is?

Absolutely no difference. Just imperialism recontextualized for a new century with new profits to be made.

I wouldn’t say I am cynical, merely realistic. In my opinion, it is a fool’s errand to think that accountability or unbiased news is even a possibility. It goes against the nature of the thing. An unbiased media has never been the case and

NPR is just as biased and deliberately misleading as any other organization. The fact that they have a link on their website is not much proof of anything. Replying to your edit: well, that is my point. They are all biased. This idea that h

Sorry but unless you provide actual links to so-called misinformation, I’m going to assume that this is either overexaggerated or labeling anything against Western values as disinformation. Especially when it is described as ”This industry

You have still missed my point. The American dream was an effective, real thing for a long period of time. Most Americans today are descendants of poor immigrants that worked hard and gave their children a better quality of life. This wasn’

COVID has accelerated this big time. Why spend $5,000 a semester to watch a Zoom lecture from an average professor when you can open YouTube in a new tab and see a world-class professor share the same information for free? It makes no ratio

The flaw in the comparison is that America is largely built on its middle class, while no such thing existed in Rome. You would need the middle class to erode into a working class for the sociopolitical system to be similar.

Don’t get caught up in the specific political allegiances. Trump is Sulla because he proved that a non-politician could take the presidency, but he himself was not the person to take this to its conclusion. I see him as the forerunner of a
