I was secretly hoping for a 'proper' earthquake when I was living in Japan. Obviously I didn't want anybody to get hurt or anything to get damaged, but I only ever got to feel a few ~M3 earthquakes which were just slight bump

People were freaking about the July megaquake prophecy and nothing happened. Trying to time it is silly, just chill and enjoy your stay, you'll probably be fine.

It doesn't matter, your options are either X11 or a Wayland-based compositor, both of them come with their respective headaches that a regular user has NO IDEA how to fix.

This post shows that she does, if she is unfortunate enough to own a device with NVIDIA graphics, because without this fix Wayland will be broken. Of course, this is only one example of probably hundreds where an average user would have no

Meanwhile Grandma says: "what's a wayland?" How can anybody seriously argue Linux is an OS ready for ordinary users when you have to do crap like this? Complete delusion.

Send the older generations then. Why should Gen Z be forced to pay the price of the previous governments' poor decision making? Namely, in Germany, nurturing a authoritarian regime by decimating green energy initiatives in favor of Rus

Last I checked, many of the top free VPNs on the App Store were dodgy no-name ones that probably funnel traffic through Russia. Well done UK government you saved the children.

Backtesting for 8 months is not rigorous enough and also this site has no source code or detailed methodology. Not worth the click.

Nope, it still sucks. It's no good as an OS for general users. The average user has no idea what it even means to have an NVIDIA GPU, let alone be able to diagnose why their screen scaling is all fucked up or understand why they see st

I don't use Linux on laptops or desktops, only servers. I've been through all that pain. The userland has a long way to go to be a good OS everyone can use.

The best thing Valve could do is nuke Wayland/X11/Xwayland from orbit. Wayland is a mess that apps still don't support and doesn't work with NVIDIA GPUs. X11 is ancient and screen tears. Xwayland is the worst of both wor

Yep, I had the high end "Developer Edition" a while back and it was a terrible experience. Very hot, build quality was poor, touchpad was small, speakers were terrible. I don't think I could use anything other than a MacBook

Advertisers will freak out about having their ads on a YouTube video with swear words in the first five minutes but will put their ads alongside an LLM that can be manipulated into telling you how to make a nerve agent? Seems like it was ne
