I would say that interviewing for engineering knowledge (coding, algorithms, software engineering) is pretty straight forward, but interviewing to figure out if a candiate can get 'real' work done is very difficult. I don't know of any magi

Actually the first application of that phrase to Linux came well before Eric appeared on the scene. I'd say that I first saw it on a t-shirt for Linux Expo in North Carolina in 97 or 98, and it was being used colloquially well before that.

While this seems like quite a bucket of cold water was dropped on your head, I will tell the assembled hackers here in hn that these sorts of clauses are not just present in your contracts but in the laws that govern your employment as well

Actually, I don't think I said this exactly. I think I said "We are hiring." We have way more than 2 reqs for android and non-android related kernel work. I think I might have said that I can see hiring a few people just to do kernel pushes

And yet, the kernel and chromium are excellent codebases under healthy and active development and are running on tens or hundreds of millions of machines. We should all 'Fail' so well. People are happy to rant and rage, but the value of the

We had a problem in one of our data centers and as the service migrated we threw some 502s. It's okay now, I'm hearing. Sorry bout that!

Watch: I choose to ignore the warranty clause per clause 0. Also, since that clause exists, I can choose to apply it to other code I combine it with (unlikely, but its a dumb license that way) Past that, I'm not convinced that due to clause

These kinds of licenses are cute, but you shouldn't use one as it just makes life harder on those that might adopt and patch back into your software. Additionally, in this case, the lack of a disclaimer of warranty in this particular cute l

I thought open letters came after closed ones :-) Seriously, the merger just closed, we're only just starting the integration of the two companies.

I would point out that we have investments in solar thermal, geothermal and EGS (hot dry rock) power generation technologies. That said, I don't think this is about that.

We have a few apps that aren't open source, and they have an entire operating system that hasn't shipped as open source yet. See how that works? This guy is a joker.

I'd think so, this is very much in the same domain as Apple's new product. It was the change of domain that exposed apple (computer) to the apple (music) trademark. But this is actually as if Apple named the Iphone out of the gate as an "Ap

I think the right way to deal with this is to find a way to use our closure tool to replace jsmin's functionality in a dfsg/osi approved way. Not before the new year though (I was the dude who said no way to jsmin on google code)
