I like this historical example, but it doesn’t not present a way to think about government debt. What is a reasonable amount of debt? Is there a limit? Seems like the conclusion of this excerpt is just “shrug, didn’t happen”

I get that. And at the end of the day the problem is a relative one. If the US Dollar isn’t the reserve currency for the world, then what will take its place? There aren’t any particularly good alternatives… Bitcoin is volatile with slow tr

I’ve been thinking about this comment for a few days now because it’s so true! Pragmatic business decisions are often at odds with recruiting the best possible engineering talent which is probably not the best long term strategy…

I would love if someone would make a photometry app that ingests video (such as iPhone video of my house or drone footage of my property) and outputs a 3D gaussian splatting model. I want it just for fun, but I’m sure it to real estate agen

I totally agree. I’m very interested in some kind of data modeling representation that’s a lot more user-friendly. The core problem as I understand it is the difference between references and values.

You're hijacking the term "ethical" to present yourself as morally superior. Many people don't think they're behaving unethically, and I think you're of the minority opinion. > Many people don’t know about i

Do you really feel like what they’re collecting is “spying on you” though? They’re collecting errors and statistics to make the product better. It’s all anonymous and you can turn it off. If it were Facebook ads, I’d be more sympathetic. Bu

I don’t think the exception would be just for foreign companies. It could be a geography set aside for free trade and no tariffs. This kind of thing worked very well in Shenzhen, Hong Kong, and (the entire country of) Singapore for example.

JavaScript is great for point-free programming! Make sure you check out Ramda.js https://ramdajs.com/ It’s fun in the sense that solving a puzzle is fun, but I avoid it for anything I need to maintain long-term. But it’s go

I have the exact same thought. What would it look like? I have two ideas. 1. Multiple directory trees that use symlinks to organize files orthogonally. Your typical directory structure may have things split by client / server. But what

Lots of websites render HTML and CSS from JS (e.g. react). So some of these “static” websites are getting an uncharitable review.

Aside from the typical planned obsolescence for the purpose of recurring revenue, I found this particular example very interesting: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=32462954 It’s classic greenwashing - a more efficient

Correct me if I’m wrong, but they also seem to adjust for inflation when talking about the poor getting poorer “in real terms” but didn’t do the same for the rich people getting richer.

The 409a discount is the problem here, honestly. Maybe we should lobby the government to change the laws. Because it sucks for employees that the Y Combinator stock option agreement template includes a non-transferability clause. It’s unfai

I love this article and its ideas, but let's talk about where it falls short in reality. 1. CRDTs are a pain, especially rich text. Schema migrations are a pain. And eventually when you have a very successful product, you'll have
