This is fatal. I have a small pilot project on Google Cloud. Considering putting up a much larger system. Not now. The costs of Google may be comparable or lower than other services, but they don't seem to get that risk is a cost. Risk

Good catch. I just read the opinion in Bennis. The core of it is that the state may take property if the use of the property constitutes a public nuisance. If a ship is used for piracy or drug running, for example, then it can be taken. In

What bothers me about the article is that they say that the basis of the claim is the 8th Amendment ("excessive fines"). I hope that is not the only argument the lawyers made. The problem with relying on the 8th alone is that the

I do not agree with this argument, but it goes like this: If a wealthy drug dealer has cars, boats, houses and whatnot that are used in the course of committing crimes, the government should be able to seize them to stop them from continuin

This is a good explanation of how it happens on a single node. What do you do when the transaction is distributed? How do you achieve consensus? Is there a write up on it anywhere?

Disagree. First, I won't say your product is a commodity, but there are many, many, many layout and design tools out there. I'm not going to pay $25 to evaluate each one. It's as much about the sign-up-and-hand-over-the-credi

I dumped Thunderbird some years ago because I had accumulated 10 gb of email and it had slowed to a crawl. That, and the search wasn't very good. My gmail interface has neither of those problems. I would consider going back to Thunderb

It looks like the core of the idea is "object stealing". In most consensus algorithms you'll have a single leader, worldwide, that is in charge of sequencing all objects. Either that, or you partition objects across leaders a

Instead of feeding our baby peanut butter, I smeared a small amount on his arm first. The skin got red and bubbled up. We took him in, got him tested, and found that he had the allergy. Thank God I didn't feed it to him.
