A very interesting animal. A biology professor told me a story that went something like this: these animals were known for seemingly staying in a larval state for their whole life, an extreme case of neoteny. Scientists brought some specime

In the linked Groups post, the author reports "physical threats and other forms of abuse". I find that very easy to believe and your post reads very uncharitable, unless you have concrete reasons to think that the author is lying.

I think a common way to teach classical statistics is to start with a binomial test. The binomial distribution is quite concrete so the students can hopefully grasp the concept of p-value. Then things become more abstract with the normal, T

According the Wikipedia, the iPhone 4 got only 4 years of updates (released in 2010, last update with iOS 7.1.2 in 2014). And Apple was still selling it in 2015. That's maybe the worst example but it illustrates the difference between

I'm not questioning the numbers but still find them absurd. How can it be a full time (or maybe 70%) job to take care of the plants of a single unit?

Consider the pig picture in the article (the one under "The Occluding Contour Problem"). The method proposed by dvh would give the outline, but not the contour of the pig's left ear for example.

That's a rather uncharitable judgement based on just one article... Also in case others struggled to understand what the linked article is talking about, I found this one very helpful: https://4gravitons.com/2022/1

Presumably the device will do the recording with the screen turned off, so it will generate little heat internally. So I think placing most of the device behind something to shield it from sunlight should be enough to avoid heat issues. Tho
