I've been wondering about this short of thing, especially related to the App Store rules around APNS[1], numbers 5.5 and 5.6. A little while ago, Yelp began spamming me with a "Yelp Weekly NYC" APNS message every Friday. I al

I wasn't sure if that was client-side or server-side, and, if client-side, if the filtering is done at submit-time or display-time. I have seen someone tweet something with many sequential newlines, so I figured that it was probably cl

It seems that we should just require any company providing taxable things to common people (e.g. employers and banks) to do all of the work. Then the IRS can just figure it all out from that, you have a few checkboxes for if you have depend

Good: User interface declared as a pure function of state. Bad: Doing that in a language without a moderately competent type system. Would be interested in a Swift port, using plain old structs instead of tags.

Why does the union need management? Can't we do it in a chat room/mailing list - for which there are numerous free options?

Maybe unions (which are large monolithic organizations covering many employers) are not what I'm looking for. It just seems that more startup engineering teams should engage in collective action, because in many cases, if the entire te

Why do you need all of that, though? Couldn't a private chat room for the engineering team to plan collective action be enough? > Hey all, management's been asking us for too much unpaid overtime. Strike?

I don't know much about Linux kernel architecture, but could it be a separate binary loaded at runtime by the kernel, so that it's not actually part of the kernel?

To be clear - would you also be morally opposed to renting physical TV antennas? Assume that the only thing they are useful for is receiving broadcast television, they can't be repurposed for electronics hacking, hanging clothes, etc.

Atheism isn't a club though. You just... don't go to church. I don't think I've ever felt the need to read a book about atheism - what would it say? "There is no God"? Well, obviously, I didn't need a book

Ah, unlimited vacation. A competition to see who can take the least vacation! It should be called undefined vacation, because there's clearly a limit, unless taking half of the year off is fine.

Why would this be provided as a stipend instead of as an expense? If you're completing the training on company time, it's just another expense. If you're expected to do it on your own time, how is this a perk ?
