Well like steve mentioned -- you can't just have a platform and hope it will save you. You need a killer app on top first... The only killer app I can think of from yahoo is mail & flickr.

Probably doesn't work in school settings, but at work, it's pretty normal. Visit any UPS corporate office and you'll see people there look like they wear the exact same white shirt & black pants every day.

It's cool to do it as a prototype language, but I doubt someone would make use of it over php. Until someone ports drupal or wordpress to "the next php language", php in the current form probably isn't going anywhere.

Selenium requires java. There are python bindings to selenium-rc, but you still need the rc server. Normally I don't do selenium so early in the code process, but it isn't bad either.

not sure why you're being downvoted here, but I do agree on the c++ binding infrastructure. I think the things he listed are quite possible in node -- I can't see any of those things he listed that might be cpu bound. A fairly popular smal

what prompted you to switch from macvim to vim? you'd lose a number of useful features like copy/paste, fullscreen, & scroll integration.

Investors are savvier than you'd think. Even on a rumor that the vendor is doing an exclusive lock-in with MS, I'm sure you'd see the stock price dip. Investors spend all their time looking at news reports in their target industry, so I'm

I think the introduction of the SSD is causing site owners to "leave the cloud". I haven't seen any cloud hosting that lets you choose SSD-based disks yet, probably because it's low demand and high expense. The throughput of a single sata

The 1GB of today was the 128MB of yesterday. I'm guessing in a year or two, games implemented on webgl will be a step up from farmville and require more than 1GB of memory to run well. IE9 still has a chance to catch up if they end up bec

I guess it depends what you consider "very large". If you're talking about multi-petabyte, then I'd probably use hdfs, but otherwise mongodb might fit. I hear craigslist uses mongodb to store their data since 1997, which is a fair amount

I'm guessing you were an older user, and when sites change TOS, they're required to ask older members to review the new TOS. However new users haven't agreed to the old TOS and thus they won't get the popup.

If that were the case, wouldn't apps like google calendar get cancelled long time ago? I doubt the ads on google calendar are sufficient to sustain the number of users it has on a daily basis.

I'm not sure if Google understand their own freemium model. Isn't the idea to let people use your cloud service at a very low cost, in hopes that they'll scale up and pay more? I feel like there's a huge gap between free and paying $400 a

I don't think it's a small minority of apps. 100% of the people I know who are using GAE are seeing the minimum of a 4x price increase for their app (before the 50% discount). The price increase would actually prevent some small ISVs from
