Though postgresql is much easier than mysql currently (for windows installations). There's all kinds of "gotchas" on windows if you're installing mysql. For example, the normal mysql 5.1 on windows doesn't have innodb, so if you choose "t

I think you'll bump into more startup buddies in Mountain View than in Palo Alto. Just visit any coffee shop in Mountain View and you'll see -- they all look like computer labs. There might be more funded startups in Palo Alto though.

I cook everything with fresh ingredients and I'm still able to eat decently. I usually either cook a form of soup noodles with 1 veggie & meat for around $2.50 or a form of spinach/fish/tomato/mushroom risotto for around $3.00 a meal.

Coming from a "poor" entrepreneur who has previously held six-figure software engineer salaries, I can say there's more to entrepreneurship than salary. When I busted my ass working overtime to add cool new features, nobody cared. The com

For the really cheap solution, you can just get a mini-itx atom board, mini-itx case, and a few external usb enclosures for the hard drives. It's what I have at home, running opensolaris on Xen. I mapped the usb drives natively to opensol

Their idea reminded me of Paul Graham's initial idea of selling art over the internet (before Viaweb). The only difference with Paul's idea and theirs involved the partial ownership bit.

The 0.7 version isn't too bad. I give it to people who want to learn ruby but don't want to buy a book. There's a simple interactive learning tool that is useful if you've never programmed in your life before.
