I'm glad someone else is coming with a solution other than maven. Maven is one complicated beast.

Great interview, though some of the better comments were embedded in the other live mixergy interview thread here: http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=1003850

Well the reason jQuery rose to popularity had nothing to do with its speed. jQuery is a bit of a pseudo-dsl for dealing with dom manipulation. Sure it's a ton faster if you just did it with pure dom, but I think if you considered the deve

How different is it working there compared to working at a community hackerspace like the Hacker Dojo next door to YC? There's a fair number of startups working out of the Dojo too.

why would it be dangerous to shake a phone? it's all solid state materials, it shouldn't cause damage from shaking your phone unless you throw it.

I'm not so sure about that... seems like the way that the MIT team won was by using an affiliate model. We'll pay you money if you find a balloon. Would that work in a terrorist situation? $2000 for the first terrorist found. Seems like

FYI, BGI in San Francisco (large institutional investor firm) uses visual basic on their core trading platform (handles all instrument classes). Their visual basic developers there make more than 100k. Their bonuses are big too -- 50% of

true, but still a bit sleazy for a company to back out of a contest. i wouldn't want to use a company's api if i knew they did this type of stuff. who wants to work for a company that treats their developers as marketing opportunities?

Big people have to eat more too, so they spend more on food. Isn't that penalizing people based on their size too? There is a plus side though, if you have a family with small kids, the cost of the flight might only come out to be a 2-pers

It's actually a good idea. Want to save $10 on your flight? Use my 5-minute ABS program! Then again, if it were a democracy, this idea probably wouldn't fly because there's more fat people than skinny ones in middle america.

Well the bad part about Sass is that designers won't work with it. Unless you work on a team of 3 and you've got a programmer that does the CSS, there's no problem, but I think most companies that have 8 or 9 people on staff probably has a

Pretty cool that you can bump iphone to an android and have it actually work (I tested it). I don't think there are many apps that cross-communicate interactively.

Yeah the rackspace outage freaked us out a little. Seems like it would be nice if they could notify the customers before the customers discovered the downtime themselves. If Rackspace emailed their customers at the first sign of downtime,
