The data is scraped from restaurant menu aggregators. There are some online and they don't seem to even try to stop you from scraping. If I had to guess I'd say that scraping restaurant websites would be a much bigger project tha

Recently I wrote a small search engine for NYC menus: https://c.bitlet.org/ff.html The data is small enough that you can keep it all in memory. It was a nice toy and it let me play with a few data retrieval techniques I had

Happy to share! It's vanilla nodejs, no additional framework used (nothing like express.js or anything like that). The search stuff is just a bunch of custom in memory data structures, there is reverse index, plus a mapping of common m

Food from Emilia Romagna or Sardinia is easy to find, that's why I linked it! Food from Lunigiana is nowhere to be found in restaurants in NY.

Offtopic: 'ciao' doesn't mean only 'goodbye' as the author seems to imply given the title. It means both 'hello' or 'goodbye'. It is similar to the Hawaiian 'aloha' when used as a greet

The 42nd street stop seems to be missing the 8th avenue line downtown platform. Maybe it's just completely covered by the walking area? It'd be great to have a 3d visualization where you can rotate the camera around.

In my experience, when I tried to board the wrong flight, the scanner served its purpose making an alerting sound and making sure they'd prevent me from boarding on the wrong airplane. This was with Delta (both my intended flight and t

If you see this problem as a special case of another problem the answer becomes pretty intuitive. Suppose there are N (let's pick 1000) doors: Behind one door is a car; behind the others N-1 (999), goats. You pick a door, say No. 1, an

Are you by any chance talking about Chinese restaurants in the u.s.? Most of the time when I had fish in China at restaurants it was whole. With head and everything. So, even if covered with any sauce, you could easily distinguish the fish.

I find interesting that you could read what the worker said as a metaphor to software development. And if a worker were to look at how some code changes just looking at the files modified, he would probably notice that we keep tearing open

If you search "Carbonara" in the U.S. you get something with cream, peas and garlic. So, it's definitely affected. :)

Wouldn't an English pie be similar to something like "torta pasqualina"? It's not usual to see a pie with meat in Italy, usually its filling it's all vegetables/eggs, seldom some ham. There are plenty though.

True, but leaving health and pension in or out the gross salary makes a big difference if you want to compare gross salaries.

I don't know how it works in Spain, but in Italy the cost of an employee is probably much more than his/her salary. The employer gives you a salary, then they have to pay on top of it ~30% of INAIL, INPS etc. (pension, health &quo

There is a lot of shared memory between renderers and the browser. Your 208MB might not be additional, but a big subset of it could be shared with the renderer/gpu process. If you want to know where the memory is going you can go to ab

As it happens often, the title says New York City but it is only for Manhattan. It would also be nice if there were maps in-between 1609 and today to see which areas were built at different times.
