Another +1 for Mercury, simple to start and really does just work.

I very much doubt they made that decision based on bandwidth costs though. They've burned a billion dollars already, don't think they are thinking about margins much at the moment.

Random comment on the app: Using a 4-character room code is a really really bad idea. "Zoom-bombing" became a thing because 9 digit room codes without an additional passcode was fine, before millions of new people started using it

Honestly, it's a positive improvement. Better information layout, and the code is still front and center. None of the core functions really changed place, just changed padding a little.

I grew up in Miami, live in NYC now, 79 feels insanely hot to me now. I'm sure there's some science to this, but it's probably either acclimation to the "average" temperature, or maybe differences in humidity? Also

No they didn't, big difference between encrypting E2E a 2 person peer-to-peer call vs encrypting a call with 50 participants going through an SFU. They based it on Jitsi, which does have SFU-based E2E encryption working in beta, so the

The multiplayer thing is my biggest gripe. It is unfathomable to me that Unity has seemingly ceded multiplayer functionality to Photon, considering the most valuable games on the planet right now are all multiplayer-first.

Well even if people use ipfs.io or infura gateways, the content served via IPFS is not being "served" from those central servers, just cached, so it's not exactly the same situation.

How is this different from `hub`? https://github.com/github/hub It seems to do pretty much the same things, except it works a little more separate from git itself whereas hub is designed to shim on top of git. edit: nv

Where the citation on that? From what I’ve seen, P2P is more common than SFUs, if for no other reason than they are way simpler to implement architecturally for small amount of participants.

I don't think authoritarian tactics like that, while effective, would fly in the US. I for one would not be ok with that. Once the government takes that authority once, who knows what they end up doing with it when they see they can ge
